Job Description
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Field Engineer to be the onsite lead for system startup and commissioning on a mission-critical facility. This position plays a key role in ensuring all mechanical, electrical, and control systems are installed, tested, documented, and handed over according to the highest industry standards. You will act as the eyes and ears of the commissioning team in the field, collaborating with contractors, vendors, and controls integrators to drive schedule, quality, and system readiness.
HVAC Field Engineer ResponsibilitiesParticipate in daily safety check-ins and GC-led toolbox talks.
Lead or support commissioning huddles with subcontractors, vendors, and controls teams.
Track and update the commissioning micro-schedule based on site progress.
Coordinate with trades to ensure system readiness for startup (power, water, access, etc.).
Walk down systems and complete pre-functional checklists.
Witness and document vendor-led startups for major equipment (UPS, chillers, ATS, fire pumps, etc.).
Monitor controls point-to-point (P2P) testing for accuracy and alarm logic.
Execute or observe functional performance testing (FPT) and maintain detailed records.
Log, track, and resolve deficiencies using commissioning software tools.
Review O&M manuals, startup sheets, and test documentation for completeness.
- Provide daily progress updates and participate in project coordination meetings.
HVAC Field Engineer Position Requirements
8+ years of experience in commissioning, field engineering, QA/QC, or MEP systems.
Proven work history in mission-critical environments (data centers, labs, semiconductor facilities, or other high-tech builds).
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems operations.
Proficiency with commissioning tools such as Bluebeam, CxAlloy, Smartsheet, or Facility Grid.
Experience with test equipment (multimeter, IR camera, flow meters) is a plus.
Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, technical, and safety-focused environment.
