Under the direction of the Director of Wellness, the Fitness Center Specialist is responsible for developing, monitoring and revising fitness programs and member activities. Serves as the primary interface between members and the fitness center staff to ensure timely follow-up to all member input. Ensures all physical activities, including member usage of the therapy pool, are conducted in a safe and proper manner in accordance with Sisters of Charity policy and applicable governing law.
- Serve as the primary contact for member programs, services, suggestions, complaints and complaint resolution. Provides timely and fair resolution to member complaints are required when possible; if not able to resolve member complaint immediately escalate the concern to the Director of Wellness.
- Responsible for the prompt, fair and professional follow-up on all member inquiries.
- Coordinates maintenance of all equipment and cleaning as needed.
- Monitors all exercise equipment including therapy pool activity and is responsible for the safe conduct of all members when using the pool. Must be alert, vigilant and be able to exercise sound judgment/discretion when addressing member conduct or observed unsafe practices.
- Responsible for the safe and proper usage of equipment including instruction on safety features and proper usage of equipment safety features.
- Keeps current with all emergency procedures. Reports every accident/incident as required by policy or law and completes all necessary reports i.e., Injury/Accident/Incident Report.
- Prepare instructional materials, programs and presentations for member usage. Maintains accurate records and required statistics. Administer program evaluations and make necessary adjustments based on member feedback.
- Monitor the fitness center for safety at all times and perform periodic safety checks and reports immediately safety concerns to the Director of Wellness
- Take and record the Cl and pH readings every two hours or as directed.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the pool deck, locker rooms, and lobby directly outside the pool doors. Responsible for general facility cleanliness including the lobby and fitness area, reports discrepancies to Environmental Services.
- May be cross-trained as a back-up for the Wellness reception desk
Educational Attainment Two-year degree or equivalent experience in fitness, physical education or related field.
- Four-year degree or equivalent experience in fitness, physical education or related field.
Licensure/Certification
- Health & Fitness certification.
- Personal Training Instructor Certification. Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
- First Aid Certification.
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.
- AED and Oxygen Provider Certifications.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills
- An understanding of physical education principles and the ability to work with members of all ages.
- Thorough knowledge of safety rules and regulations, rescue techniques, policies and procedures for use of the pool.
Kind & Length of Experience 2 yrs experience in a fitness/wellness center.
- 4 yrs experience in a fitness/wellness center preferred
