They perform other tasks as assigned in emergency or unusual situations with specific guidance from the supervisor, cleaning up to 28,000-35,000 square feet of cleanable space per eight hour work day. Examples of additional work to be performed include but are not limited to:/span/pullipspanPerform work that constitutes a direct service of the department to ensure a comfortable, safe, and clean environment in which the University community can live, learn, and work./span/p/lilipspanRepresent the department with the University community and its visitors, behaving in a professional manner./span/p/lilipspanKeep informed of departmental and University rules, regulations, and guides pertaining to employment obligations, including complying with attendance and clocking in and out on time./span/p/lilipspanWork with other University Facilities staff as part of a team, being flexible with schedule to accommodate emergency situations such as staffing shortages and snow removal./span/p/li/ulp/ppbuWork Interactions/u/b/ppspanThis position reports directly to one of the Custodial Supervisors (one of four-night supervisors, one of three Residential Custodial Supervisors, an Evening Custodial Supervisor, a Day Custodial Supervisor, or a Weekend Custodial Supervisor). The position may report indirectly to a Night Operations Manager depending on the shift assigned. The incumbent will work alone or with others, and perform essential or non-essential tasks as assigned by a supervisor. They will also perform assignments made by the Manager of Custodial Services and/or the Night Operations Manager. Under certain circumstances including but not limited to, emergency snow removal, spills, and flooding, the Custodian will perform assignments made by the Work Management Center, the Director of Facilities Management, the Resource Manager, the Infrastructure Manager, and other department managers./span/pp/ppbuRequirements and Qualifications/u/b/pullipspanHigh School Diploma or GED preferred/span/p/lilipspanOne year of custodial work experience is preferred/span/p/lilipspanRequires valid and current driver’s license from Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia/span/p/lilipspanRequires a basic knowledge of English including the ability to read, write and speak English with understanding in order to read and understand product label instructions and University policies and procedures/span/p/lilipspanMust be able to relate custodial and maintenance problems clearly to supervisor and/or the Work Management Center/span/p/lilipspanWill be required to complete a training program in building cleaning/span/p/li/ulp/ppbuWork Mode Designation/u/b/ppspanThis position has been designated as/spanbspan /spanbOn-Campus. /b/bspanPlease note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.  Such review may necessitate a change to a position’s mode of work designation.
