Medical Assistant for In-Home Sleep Studies
Summary
This role specializes in supporting patients with In-Home sleep studies. Primary responsibilities include coordinating services to ensure high levels of outpatient care for eligibility, education, distribution and data management of In-Home sleep study units.
Performs medical assistant responsibilities related to In-Home sleep study coordination, encompassing clinical, technical, and administrative duties that support patient care and clinical operations. Works to facilitate patient flow and ensure an accurate and complete medical record for each patient. Frequently interacts with patients in performing required duties.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Interacts with patients, providing in-person medical support and other communications, including electronic and telephonic as needed.
· Verifies patient information by interviewing the patient, recording medical history.
· Accurately documents in patients’ chart all communications from insurance authorizations to patient contact.
· Checks all patient insurances and obtains required authorizations when necessary and selects correct sleep testing device according to insurance, in a timely manner.
· Verifies patients are eligible to have the In-Home sleep study and ensures all questions are answered for accurate results.
· Calls patients to schedule their appointments to pick up a test unit once all documentation is verified.
· Instructs patients on how to properly use test unit to ensure they use and handle properly for the best results.
· Uploads and reviews all results immediately to ensure the information is acceptable so it can be analyzed in a timely manner.
· Cleans and inspects all units for breakage after units are returned by patients.
· Manages the amount of testing units available and ensures to always have adequate stock.
· Maintains an organized system for timely callbacks, related documentation, and follow-through.
· Maintains open communications with providers for any issues with data, patients unable to complete exams, and ineligibility per requirements.
· Closes encounters in a timely manner so charges may be posted.
· Secures patient information by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding, and keeping patient information confidential.
· Demonstrates thorough understanding of OSHA/CLIA guidelines regarding universal precautions, biohazardous safety, and infection control.
· Regular attendance to ensure patient care needs are supported.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Certification: A certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant (MA) program is required.
Knowledge and Skills:
· Competency in medical assisting with the ability to provide appropriate patient care.
· Interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients and patient representatives in person and through electronic and telephonic means as needed.
· Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.
· Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
· Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical staff and peers.
· Computer proficiency and ability to quickly learn new applications.
· Organizational and multi-tasking skills with a focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.
· Demonstrated exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
