Summary:

The physical therapist will establish and carry out an individualized plan of care including assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, education, and communication to maximize a patient's progress toward achieving functional goals, in accordance with all therapeutic interventions described in the Kansas Physical Therapy Practice Act. The physical therapist will also maintain a positive working relationship with physical therapy assistants, other health professionals and ancillary staff. Completes other tasks as outlined by the Rehab Services Director to assist in the functioning of the department.

The employee is held accountable for policies and procedures of the department and organization. Additionally, the position serves as a role model for ethical management behavior and promotes an awareness and understanding of positive ethical and moral principles consistent with the Mission, Vision and Behavior Standards of Rawlins County Health Center

The employee reports directly to the Rehab Services Director and supervises PTAs as they execute the plan of care developed by physical therapists. The employee works collaboratively with all departments as needed to assist in the achievement of organizational objectives. Must be certified by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts as a physical therapist.

Essential Functions:

  1. Work under the direction of the Rehab Services Director and follow all regulations and laws regarding scope of practice.
  2. Instruct, motivate and assist patients during treatment.
  3. Able to administer and utilize all equipment and treatment techniques necessary to perform interventions.
  4. Accurately administer and progress or adjust occupational therapy interventions as indicated by clinical presentation.
  5. Assist with clerical tasks when needed to ensure compliance with insurance and hospital policies.
  6. Is consistently at work and on time; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrives at meetings and appointments on time.
  7. Sets short and long range goals consistent with the department and hospital objectives, and in alignment with RCHC’s strategic plan. Monitors and revises as necessary.
  8. Prioritizes work, keeps area neat and initiates productive tasks to stay busy.
  9. Develops sound plans of care for each patient based on presenting medical diagnosis, functional limitations, impairments, available evidence, therapist experience and patient expectations and goals.
  10. Consistently measures and documents patients’ change in status to determine effects of treatment and discusses with other department members when changes or further assessment is warranted.
  11. Identifies information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities and detects changes in circumstances or events.
  12. Must use logic and reasonings to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  13. Acts as an ambassador of Rawlins County Health Center and an advocate for patients.
  14. Proficient with documentation and all other required software to perform job tasks.
  15. Able to complete treatment, documentation and cleaning efforts required to maintain a full clinical caseload within allotted time.
  16. Prioritizes schedules and completes work in a timely manner and productive manner.
  17. Meets commitments, accepts accountability for job performance and follows policies and procedures including HIPAA.
  18. Completes tasks on time or notifies the appropriate person with an alternate plan.
  19. Able to perform all physical job demands.
  20. Adapts to changes in the work environment; manages competing demands; changes approach or method to best fit the situation; able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  21. Keeps up to date knowledge on information in the occupational therapy field and changing regulations.
  22. Assists in developing and presenting inservices to rehab department and other hospital staff.
  23. Assists in developing new service lines as assigned by Rehab Services Director.
  24. Displays original thinkings and creativity; meets challenges with resourcefulness; generates suggestions for improving work; develops innovative approaches and ideas; presents ideas and information in a manner best suited for those receiving it.
  25. Perform beyond immediate job duties, is resourceful and generates new ideas.
  26. Documentation is accurate, clear, concise and completed in a timely manner.
  27. Remains aware of patient-centered goals and regulatory requirements and keeps rehab staff informed of progress verbally and/or writing in the patient record.
  28. Give full attention to what other people are saying, take time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  29. Confers with rehab staff and others to discuss and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment.
  30. Develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintains them over time.
  31. Willing to own mistakes, apologize and make amends.
  32. Demonstrates a sense of community through a willingness to share talents, ideas, and time for special projects beyond the scope of the regular work routine.

Certifications/Licensures: Maintains active licensure, including Basic Life Support (BLS).

Working Environment:

Most of the time is spent walking or standing with some sitting in the hospital setting. Travel around the community and business may be necessary.
