Summary
As a Mechanic, you will play a critical role in maintaining and supporting the operational efficiency of our facility. You will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and basic electrical issues, and ensuring the safe and effective operation of machinery and equipment. This role requires hands-on technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other team members and shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and manage spare parts inventory, including determining appropriate stocking levels and ordering parts from vendors.
- Perform mechanical maintenance such as changing bearings, belts, and idler pulleys on trough-style conveyors.
- Clean and service pneumatic valves on optical sorting machines and maintain a clean work area.
- Communicate equipment issues effectively with mechanics and supervisors across shifts.
- Maintain and secure tools and equipment used in daily operations.
- Create and manage backups for sorting computer software and parameters.
- Conduct general preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment including bucket elevators, screw conveyors, forklifts, front-end loaders, and sweepers.
- Install and set up facility machinery and provide backup support for maintenance technicians.
- Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
- Conduct checks and basic maintenance on Non-Ferrous Metal Detectors.
- Complete daily maintenance logs and maintain a preventive maintenance program for mechanical and electrical systems.
- Provide on-the-job training to new employees.
- Rig motors, conveyor pulleys, and other heavy components safely.
- Weld and fabricate, including patching holes in steel chutes and transitions.
- Troubleshoot sorting computers (Windows-based platforms).
- Participate in problem-solving and project management initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and expectations:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics is a plus.
- Knowledge of glass processing is advantageous.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Analytical problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work safely and efficiently in a physically demanding environment.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Occasional use of motor coordination and finger dexterity (e.g., keyboarding, machine operation).
