Job Description
The Food Program Assistant position will work to promote food security and stability for low-income individuals and families as well as unhoused
individuals. This position will be required to work quickly and independently in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist in the supervision of volunteers
• Preparing grocery items paying attention to quality control
• Safe food handling and sanitation practices certification
• Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Operate all warehouse equipment to: Unload and load trucks/donor vehicles, store food and
rotate stock in preparation for storage and distribution; Pick, palletize and load products onto
vehicles for delivery
• Assist in maintaining a clean, orderly pantry, warehouse, and outside storage areas
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Ability to:
• Demonstrate flexibility of style relative to specific assignments, working environments, and staff and volunteer diversity;
• Recognize needs and initiate actions in order to help clients and to help develop more efficient agency systems and procedures;
• Maintain focus and high energy in performance
• Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally-diverse families and cultural sensitivity
• Lifting, bending, and loading required; standing or walking for up to several hours at a time;
handling of moderate weight items weighing (20) to (50) pounds occasionally and up to (40)
pounds regularly; indoor and outdoor work; proficiency in the use of pallet jacks and forklifts

- These abilities include, but are not limited to: sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), writing (in English), reading (English), speaking (English and Spanish), seeing, hearing, driving, basic mathematical calculations, problem-solving, reasoning, composition, and decision-making.
- Ability to work in warehouse conditions as well as inside freezers and coolers with a temperature range of -10 degrees F. to 38 degrees F
Knowledge of:
• Familiarity with non-profit social service agencies, with a focus on service to low-income and at-risk individuals, the unhoused, etc.
• Interpersonal skills; Build positive relationships between team members
• Communicate effectively and respectfully with people from different backgrounds and lifestyles
• Basic knowledge of food storage, handling, and distribution procedures
• Basic knowledge of inventory control processes and procedures
Qualifications:
Minimum of High School Diploma or GED. Possession of a valid California driver’s license, a
clean driving record, automobile insurance and bilingual.
