Position Summary

As a Mobile Security Officer – Airfield Patrol, you will be entrusted with ensuring the security and operational integrity of the Air Operations Area (AOA) at a leased Federal Airfield. This role requires an experienced Mobile Patrol Driver who will be held to the highest accountability, professionalism, and safety standards. You will be responsible for conducting mobile patrols, monitoring sensitive airfield areas, and enforcing federal and client security protocols, including those enforced by NASA and the FAA.

Job Requirements & Responsibilities:

  • Proven Experience:
    • Must have prior experience as a Mobile Patrol Driver, with a strong track record of adhering to safety regulations and operational standards.
  • Driver Accountability:
    • Required to drive a company-issued vehicle while maintaining high operational and safety standards. Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license (Real ID-compliant license required for airfield access).
    • Accountable for ensuring the vehicle's safe operation during patrols and while performing access control or escort duties.
  • Adherence to Federal Regulations:
    • Must meet Federal background check requirements to access secure areas of the airfield.
    • Must follow all relevant federal, NASA, and FAA regulations, including specific Airfield Drivers' Best Practices and communication protocols with Air Traffic Control (ATC).
  • Shift Flexibility & Accountability:
    • Must be available for flexible scheduling with shift start and end times that may vary slightly Monday to Friday, based on operational demands.
    • Ability to adjust to potential shift changes, with a commitment to arriving on time and maintaining high performance.
  • Duties & Operational Vigilance:
    • Conduct mobile patrols within the AOA and surrounding areas, monitoring ramps, taxiways, runways, perimeter fence lines, and gates to deter unauthorized activity and ensure safety.
    • Perform access control duties, including ID checks and escorting authorized personnel or visitors in compliance with security protocols.
    • Respond promptly to security alerts and assist with emergency response operations as required.
    • Conduct Foreign Object Debris (FOD) checks to ensure airfield safety and report any hazards.
    • Document all activities accurately and promptly using the Belfry App or other company software platforms, ensuring compliance with reporting procedures.
    • Maintain a visible security presence on the airfield, interacting with tenants, visitors, and personnel to ensure adherence to airfield policies and regulations.
    • To maintain safety, provide crowd control, gate access, and ramp escort services.
    • Ensure proper care and maintenance of company-issued equipment, including VHF AirBand radios, Motorola radios, and CSS smartphones.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Be willing to take on other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to the overall success of security operations at the airfield.
Shift Availability
  • Full-Time Positions: 2 openings
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday
  • Shift Hours: Variable Day and Swing Shifts, based on operational needs

Day Shift (approx.): 4:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Swing Shift (approx.): 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Note: Shift start and end times may vary slightly depending on business demands. Employees must be available for flexible scheduling within these timeframes, including potential shift changes. Overtime may be periodically required and is offered based on operational needs.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Starting Pay: $26.50/hour
  • Hiring Bonus: $1,000
  • Shift Differential: $2.00/hour for graveyard shifts (2200-0600)

Education, Certifications, and License Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid CA BSIS Guard Card Certification.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license (Real ID or government-issued ID required for airfield access) with a clean driving record and ability to operate a company vehicle safely.
  • Completion of CSS-led driver training and AOA Airfield and Driver Training course (post-hire).
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or ability to obtain post-hire).
  • Ability to pass NASA-led federal background checks.
  • Minimum age of 18 years, as required by law or contractual obligations.

Qualifications:

  • Prior security and mobile patrol experience, preferably in aviation or federal environments.
  • Exceptional situational awareness and ability to de-escalate conflicts calmly and professionally.
  • Strong report-writing skills with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with patrolling techniques, access control, and surveillance practices.
  • Comfortable using technology, including smartphones and radio communication systems.
  • Professional appearance and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with others.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, and drive for extended periods in various environmental conditions.
  • Fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing) with clear communication skills.
  • Knowledge of FAA airfield safety protocols and radio communication is a plus.
Important Notes
  • Duty Location: Moffett Federal Airfield operates under Federal Exclusive Jurisdiction. Federal laws and regulations apply to all on-duty and off-duty conduct within NASA Ames Research Center boundaries.
  • Prohibited Activities: Use of personal cell phones or non-security-related reading materials is strictly forbidden during duty hours.
  • Safety First: Officers must adhere to FAA best practices, maintain proper sleep hygiene, hydration, and fitness levels, and report any inability to operate a vehicle safely.
