Exercises a high degree of skill, judgment, and an understanding of the principles and methodology of a technical field. Also provides basic diagnostic testing and imaging. When working with a physician, spends most of the time working with patients and supporting physicians.p style="text-align:inherit"/pp style="text-align:inherit"/ppbESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/b/pulliGathers necessary information for physician, initial patient screening work up and assessment and performs certain diagnostic testing required to properly care for the patient in accordance with any eye related problems and the sub-specialty./liliObtains, performs or checks for ocular history, vital signs, visual acuity, neutralize glasses, automated refractions, pupillary exams, confrontational fields, ocular motility, and intraocular pressure./liliPerforms diagnostic testing, including basic color vision screening using Ishihara or HRR plates, automated visual field testing, Humphrey Visual Field, corneal topographies for corneal measurements associated with contact lens fittings, corneal disease or surgical management on the orb scan./liliUses a pachymeter to measure corneal thickness./liliPossesses basic contact lens knowledge and the ability to insert and remove contacts lenses or teach a patient insertion and removal techniques and contact lens care./liliPerforms specialized visual acuity testing, including potential acuity meter (PAM), laser interferometry (LI) and brightness acuity tester (BAT)./liliPerforms clinical-clerical office duties, including scheduling, request forms, printing up results, ordering contact lenses, and related administrative activities deemed necessary by the department./liliStocks rooms according to practice needs/li/ulpOther duties as assigned.br /br /bMINIMUM EDUCATION amp; EXPERIENCE/b/pulliHigh School diploma or equivalent and 1 year closely related clinical experience or training in optometry, ophthalmology or related field required/liliOr equivalent combination of education and experience/li/ulpbr /bKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES/b/pulliOcular anatomy and physiology, basic tonometry, ophthalmic equipment maintenance and simple repairs preferred/liliUnderstands ocular injuries and urgent care preferred/liliPossesses basic ocular pharmacology knowledge of drops and medications used for eye examinations preferred/liliIdentifies the purpose of these commonly used medications including proper administration, dosage, durations, common side effects, and know hospital policy about shelf life of these medications preferred/li/ulpbr /bLICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS/b/pulliCardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) upon hire preferred and/liliCertification by the registry of the Joint Commission of Allied Health in Personnel Ophthalmology, or other nationally recognized professional certifying body upon hire preferred/li/ulp/ppThe University of Rochester is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving an inclusive and welcoming culture to advance the University’s Mission to Learn, Discover, Heal, Create – and Make the World Ever Better.
