Switch crews are responsible for performing jobs efficiently and following all company and customer safety rules and completing corresponding paperwork at the end of every shift./span/p p /p pspan style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"strongEssential Duties and Responsibilities/strong/span/p p /p ul li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance/span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks on schedule./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Read, write, and communicate in English amp; or receives starting signal and moves control; such as throttle and air brakes to operate locomotive./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Talks to crew or other yard workers via radio to give or receive switching information./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"May assist workers to throw switches or perform other activities involved when performing switching operations./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Turns hand brake wheel or ratchet type brake as well as apply and release handbrakes./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Observes track to detect obstructions./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Inspects locomotive after run to detect damaged or defective equipment./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Maintains records, number, origin, destination, and cargo of cars switched./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"May coordinate activities of switching crew from locomotive cab, or other on-site location./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Raises coupling lever to couple or uncouple cars./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Throws track switches to facilitate shunting of cars and signals/span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Move cars, using lantern, hand signals or radio./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Connects air hose to cars when making up trains by bending and applying force./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Sits or rides in cab of locomotive to observe signals from other crew members./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"May make minor repairs to couplings, and air hoses and report any equipment requiring major repairs./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Performs other duties as requested or required/span/li /ul pspan style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif" /spanbrspan style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"strongMachines, Tools, Special Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment Used/strong/span/p p /p ul li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"Hammers, ratchets, chisel, pry bar, wrenches, and brushes./span/li li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"span style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif"PPE;
