p style="text-align:left"bJob Description Summary/b/pMUSC is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to join our team in providing critical care to procedural areas across our healthcare enterprise. Sterile Processing Technicians ensure procedural equipment consistently meets the highest quality and safety standards and is ready for use by all areas across the healthcare enterprise. This position receives and processes incoming supplies and equipment including performing cleaning and sterilizing duties and is an integral part of the daily operation of all units.brbrDuties include:brbr• Maintain adequate inventory for assembly of instruments and equipmentbr• Perform and participate in the decontamination and cleaning of all instrumentation received, which include but are not limited to instrumentation and equipment received from all units according to established standards and proceduresbr• Prepare case carts and trays for decontamination and load them into washer and/or sterilizer as prescribed procedurebr• Perform the operation of the index washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners as well as manually cleaning instruments and equipment as prescribed by established standards and proceduresbr• Inspects all instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and breakage by viewing the instruments before assemblybr• Uses appropriate container, wrap or pouch according to the size of the instrument or equipmentbr• Sterilizes instruments and surgical trays by following prescribed policies and proceduresbr• Know how to run tests on all sterilizers, monitor and document that all parameters have been metbr• Use chemicals in the appropriate fashion taking into consideration the intended use of chemical as well as chemicals function: knowledge of appropriate PPE is also necessarybr• Participates in expediting the OR schedule by assisting the other members of the OR Team in obtaining the instruments/equipment necessary for the procedure in a timely manner Assembles and distributes case carts accurately and in a timely mannerbr• Ability to travel between sites as needed, based on departmental needsp style="text-align:inherit"/pp style="text-align:left"bEntity/b/pMedical University Hospital Authority (MUHA)p style="text-align:inherit"/pp style="text-align:left"bWorker Type/b/pEmployeep style="text-align:inherit"/pp style="text-align:left"bWorker Sub-Type/b/pRegularp style="text-align:inherit"/pp style="text-align:left"bCost Center/b/pCC000675 CHS - SPD (Sterile Processing) - Consolidated Service Center (Offsite)p style="text-align:inherit"/pp style="text-align:left"bPay Rate Type/b/pHourlyp style="text-align:inherit"/pp style="text-align:left"bPay Grade/b/pHealth-21p style="text-align:inherit"/pp style="text-align:left"bScheduled Weekly Hours/b/p40p style="text-align:inherit"/pp style="text-align:left"bWork Shift/b/pp style="text-align:inherit"/pp style="text-align:left"bJob Description/b/ppbuRequired Education and Experience:/u/b/pp/ppMUSC offers a career ladder with pay based on experience and certification obtained:/pp/ppbNon-Certified Sterile Processing Technician/b – High school diploma or GED/pp/ppbSterile Processing Technician I/b – High school diploma or GED, and certification through CRCST - HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution)/pp/ppbSterile Processing Technician II/b - High school diploma or GED, and certification through CRCST - HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution). At least twelve (12) months’ experience in sterile processing required for this role/pp/ppbSterile Processing Technician III/b - High school diploma or GED, and certification through CRCST - HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution). At least two (2) years of experience in sterile processing required for this role/pp/ppibNo certification? No problem! MUSC offers a certification incentive and bonus program that will help pay for your certification as well as a provide a bonus after you achieve your certification./b/i/pp/ppMUSC also offers an intensive 12-week training program for those new to our team. This includes a rotation between site-work and a designated training location, with training schedules rotating between varying schedules on site and 7:00am – 3:30pm at the training location./pp/ppbuPreferred Requirements:/u/b/pulliCompletion of a Sterile Processing or Surgical Technologist program/liliBasic computer skills and use of an EMR system/liliKnowledge of instrumentation/liliStrong customer service and communication skills/li/ulp/ppbuShift Information:/u/b/ppShifts are offered on varying schedules based on the needs of each area:/ppFirst shift – 7:00am – 3:30pm/ppSecond shift – 3:00pm – 11:30pm/ppThird shift – 11:00pm – 7:30am/ppWeekend shifts – 7:00am – 7:00pm, or 7:00pm – 7:00am/pp/ppbHoliday and emergency management or disaster work is required. /b/pp/ppbWeekend rotation may be required./b/pp/pp style="text-align:inherit"/pp style="text-align:left"bAdditional Job Description/b/ppbuspanPhysical Requirements:/span/u/b/pp/ppspan(C) Continuous – 6-8 hours per shift; 2) (F) Frequent – 2-6 hours per shift; 3) (I) Infrequent – 0-2 hours per shift Ability to perform job functions while standing. (I) Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. (I) Ability to lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. (I) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (F) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain vision 20/40 corrected. (C) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (C) Ability to match or discriminate between colors.
