Staff Accountant Job in San Diego, CA

LHH is looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our client’s Insurance Accounting team in San Diego, CA. This role is responsible for a broad range of accounting functions, including daily cash posting, monthly carrier reporting, bank reconciliations, year-end 1099 preparation, responding to billing inquiries from agents and underwriters, monitoring the aged receivables report, and assisting with additional projects as needed. Responsibilities:

· Post daily cash receipts, prepare bank deposits, and initiate transfers

· Prepare monthly carrier reports and remit payments

· Respond to billing inquiries from insureds, agents, and underwriters via phone and email

· Manage and respond to messages in the Accounting department’s shared inbox

· Process refunds, commissions, chargebacks, and returned checks

· Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations; investigate and resolve discrepancies

· Monitor bank account activity and cash flow; advise management of funding needs

· Review and follow up on aged receivables

· Coordinate year-end 1099 reporting and ensure timely submission

· Assist with carrier audits and support ad hoc accounting projects

 

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent work experience

· 3+ years of accounting experience (insurance industry preferred)

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs and PivotTables required)

· Strong attention to detail and accuracy

· Excellent communication and customer service skills

· Self-starter with a proactive, problem-solving mindset

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Pay Details: $75,000.00 to $85,000.00 per year
