Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Structural Steel Welder and Fitter with a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in fabricating, fitting, and welding structural steel components.
The Fitter/Welder is responsible for various types of weld preparation, fit-up of components, welding and weld finishing operations to manufacture products to customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction. Weld various types of sizes and shapes of materials to standard welding codes. Primary welding process is FCAW in flat and horizontal positions, requiring attention to detail. Material is all carbon steel, mainly beams and columns.
Location: St Louis, MO
Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:30am - 3:00pm (potential overtime opportunities available)
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and welding symbols to determine specifications and requirements.
- Measure, cut, shape, and fit structural steel components using tools such as grinders, torches, saws, and measuring devices.
- Perform MIG, TIG, Stick, or Flux-Core welding on structural steel parts to meet project requirements.
- Align and fit parts according to specifications, using clamps, jigs, and fixtures to ensure proper fit-up.
- Inspect completed welds for accuracy, strength, and compliance with industry standards.
- Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in a safe and organized condition.
- Follow OSHA safety guidelines and company safety protocols at all times.
- Work collaboratively with other team members to meet project deadlines.
Qualifications & Skills
- Must have a minimum 3 years of experience in structural steel welding and fitting.
- Forklift certification preferred.
- Operating an overhead crane experience preferred.
- Proficiency in MIG, Stick, SMAW, or Flux-Core welding processes.
- Strong knowledge of blueprint reading and welding symbols.
- Experience with grinders, cutting torches, and other metal fabrication tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials, stand for long periods, and work in various positions.
- Welding certification(s) preferred but not required.
Work Environment
- Indoor and outdoor fabrication and construction settings.
- Exposure to heat, noise, and heavy machinery.
- Use of PPE including welding helmet, gloves, and safety glasses required.
