We have an exciting opportunity for a SCADA Technician based in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

POSITION SUMMARY

The role of a SCADA Technician is to provide field support for the Gas Control visibility and function of the Summit Utilities Inc. natural gas transmission and distribution system. This position is responsible for the daily operations, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and testing of communications equipment in support of the SCADA system real-time data collection from the field devices. This position will require knowledge of RF and low voltage electrical knowledge in support of transmitters, RTU/EFM/ESD, modems, radios, antenna systems and tower infrastructure. The SCADA Technician will ensure that facilities and equipment are operating within safe operating limits and in compliance with company and regulatory policy.

The SCADA Technician must be able to perform basic telemetry and communications support while communicating clear and concise information with control room and field operations personnel. This role will work under general supervision and resolve routine issues and issues under stressful emergency conditions.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • First level support for field communications equipment such as RF and IP Technologies.
  • Perform or support installation, configuration, testing, and operation of field equipment related to real-time SCADA data visibility.
  • Support control systems visibility and function on a 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Ensure appropriate up-to-date documentation of all SCADA related equipment installations.
  • Support preventative maintenance for equipment and infrastructure components.
  • Perform installation, maintenance, and testing of AC/DC power systems including solar arrays, batteries, low voltage disconnects, and uninterruptable power supplies
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of transmitters and electronic equipment communication and calibration issues.
  • Use multi-meter and apply AC/DC electric principles to identify and resolve electrical issues.
  • Perform an assist field teams with the installation and setup of flow computer, solar panel, battery, and communications systems on site.
  • Assist with SCADA software configuration, log reviews and communications software configuration and analysis.
  • Assist in disaster recovery testing and documentation for Operational Technology (OT) operations.
  • Research technologies and methods to continuously improve operational efficiencies, safety, and reliability.
  • Ensure inventory and in-stock quantities of essential and critical infrastructure components.
  • Perform functions in support of business operations as needed that include but are not limited to OT functions such as IP network functions, computer software, and hardware support for gas control and field technicians.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree or five years of relevant industry knowledge
  • Experience in SCADA Control System Operations and/or communications in the natural gas or power industry preferred.
  • Associates Degree in Electronics or related field and/or 5 years of relevant industry experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES -

  • Excellent communication, technical, and analytical skills.
  • Strong background in the energy industry or industrial systems and troubleshooting control system operations and remote communications technology.
  • Make critical decisions while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of SCADA communications protocols and technologies.
  • Understanding of communications standards such as RS232, RS485 and Internet Protocol IP.
  • Understand how to use a multi-meter to diagnose AC/DC voltage, current, and resistance issues and identify needs.
  • Understanding of RF, Spread Spectrum, Cellular, Modems, and related technologies
  • Basic understanding of physical and cyber security risks and mitigation techniques.
  • Basic understanding of Internet Protocol (IP) network cabling, packet switching, and routing functions.
  • Effectively communicate with personnel to explain requirements to individuals at all levels within the organization.
