Responsibilities- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of systems, including brake, air, electrical, HVAC, drive train and transmission, engine and exhaust, suspension, and steering.
- Engage with external manufacturers and warranty contacts to maximize reimbursement for services performed.
- Participate in annual training provided by Navistar and Cummins to stay current with industry standards.
- Complete repair orders efficiently and accurately, following dealership and factory guidelines.
- Collaborate with the parts department to obtain necessary parts for repairs.
- Save and tag parts for warranty claims or customer requests as needed.
- Inspect assigned vehicles to identify additional safety or service needs and communicate findings.
- Work closely with service advisors to update on additional work requirements, changes, or delays.
- Document all work performed and recommendations on repair orders.
- Conduct road tests on vehicles when required to ensure quality repairs.
- Stay informed on manufacturer technical bulletins and updates.
- Report any machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisors promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicles and notify service advisors of any changes in vehicle condition.
- Keep the shop area organized and clean.
- Be accountable for dealership-owned tools and manuals, ensuring proper use and return.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA requirements.
- Operate all tools and equipment safely and report any safety concerns to management.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Diesel Technician.
- Ability to obtain and maintain State of Michigan HDT repair certifications.
- ASE certification preferred but not required.
