Appalachian Vascular and Interventional Radiology (AVIR), an independent, physician-owned practice based in Johnson City, Tennessee, is seeking a full-time Interventional Radiologist to join our expanding team at Johnson City Medical Center (JCMC) a 400-bed tertiary care facility, Level I Trauma Center, and Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center. Our practice provides advanced, minimally invasive, image-guided care across Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, improving access to high-quality medicine throughout the Appalachian Highlands.
About Our Practice
AVIR holds the exclusive contract for Interventional and Neurointerventional Radiology with Ballad Health, a large not-for-profit health system serving over one million residents. We have a dedicated outpatient IR clinic and a team of five experienced Advanced Practice Providers who manage inpatient consultations and routine procedures. This allows our physicians to focus on complex, high-end interventions, innovation, and program development. Our service line includes a wide breadth of procedures oncologic (Y-90, chemoembolization), hepatobiliary, genitourinary, peripheral vascular, venous, dialysis access, trauma, and MSK embolizations. We continue to grow rapidly, adding new service lines that bring advanced IR care to rural communities that previously lacked access.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Perform a comprehensive range of interventional radiology procedures, including: Oncology (Y-90, chemoembolization), GI and biliary interventions, Genitourinary and urological procedures, Peripheral arterial and venous interventions, Complex trauma embolization and MSK embolization, Biopsies, drainages, and other image-guided procedures.
- Opportunity to train in stroke thrombectomy with significant additional compensation for stroke call participation.
- IR call rotation limited to one site (Johnson City Medical Center), shared 1:3-1:5 among all physicians.
- Collaborate closely with APPs, physicians, and hospital teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality care.
- Play an active role in service line expansion, education, and clinical innovation.
Compensation & Benefits
- $600,000 base salary, with additional earnings for stroke call coverage.
- $50,000 signing bonus and relocation allowance.
- 14 weeks of vacation annually.

Qualifications
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Interventional Radiology (ABR or AOBR).
- Eligible for Tennessee and Virginia medical licenses.
- Proficiency in the full range of IR procedures.
- Interest in learning advanced stroke thrombectomy techniques (training provided).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
