Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System (SAVAHCS) in scenic - sunny Tucson, Arizona is currently looking to add a full-time physician to our Gastroenterology Division.
Position Background:
SAVAHCS is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment with the University of Arizona commensurate with clinical experience and academic achievement to facilitate the teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows.
The Tucson VA is a tertiary care facility providing a full range of clinical services including complex coronary angioplasty, electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, and Mohs surgery. It has been a flagship quality provider within the VA and was a 2012 winner of the prestigious Robert W. Carey Performance Excellence Award. We are in a growth area for the VA. Consequently, the VA is open to major capital investment in our facility; we are in the planning phase for a new subspecialty’s clinic building.
Position Information:
- Participate in quality improvement activities and comply with rules and regulations of the agency, facility, and department.
- Support a satisfactory process for supervision and training of fellows, residents and medical students from University of Arizona College of Medicine rotating through the GI Division
- Maintain American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certification.
- A commitment to compliance with VA and SAVAHCS regulatory requirements
- Commitment to excellence in patient care and an interest in teaching are essential
- Contribution to the scientific literature is preferred and willingness to participate in clinical trials
- All the division members participate in outpatient clinic services including fellows, clinic, and in the in-patient consult service. SAVAHCS hospitalist services reduces the demands of in-patient care in the sub-specialty division.
- Work Schedule:Full-time, Permanent, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Job Duties for the GI Physician include but are not limited to the following:
- Proficiency in standard endoscopy procedures is expected. There is an opportunity to perform advanced endoscopy procedures if it fits the candidate's interests and expertise.
- Excellent facilities and equipment are in place. Our GI service provides some remote care through telehealth and video visits; medical subspecialists are not required to travel to our affiliated clinics.
- There are numerous opportunities for clinical research and collaboration in research projects.
Requirements:
- United States Citizenship
- Non-US Citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified US Citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
- Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in all the US States
- Must be Board Certified in Gastroenterology by the ABIM (American Board of Internal Medicine)
- Successful completion of Residency Training in the USA
- Preference will be given to candidates who are board certified or recently board eligible in gastroenterology.

Pay: $325,000 - $350,000 per year with annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.
Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): maybe approved for a highly qualified candidate
