The role of the Labor and Delivery Nurse involves providing routine and complex care to patients, with a focus on long-range goals or plans.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Meet the applicable competency expectations: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
  • Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with their level of practice.
  • Administer medications and treatments as per protocol, monitoring for side-effects and effectiveness.
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
  • Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers.

To be successful in this role, you will need a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferably with one year of experience in a related nursing specialty. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications required include BLS, RN License in the state of employment or compact, and current certification from one of the following: AWHONN Intermediate FHM, AWHONN Intermediate FHM Instructor, AWHONN Advanced FHM Instructor, AWHONN Instructor Trainer, or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM).
