h2About the Department/h2pp style="margin: 0;"The City of Wasilla is currently recruiting for a Parks amp; Properties Tech II position. The current schedule is Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm with a half hour lunch break and the ability to be on-call.nbsp;/pp style="margin: 0;"br/pp style="margin: 0;"This position will maintain and repair physical structures of park buildings and grounds with little or no supervision. The employee’s primary function will be performing and coordinating grounds maintenance, and during the off season the employee will assist with snow removal, winter park duties, and properties maintenance crews.nbsp;/p/ph2Position Duties/h2pul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"liWith little or no supervision, serve as a working leader for parks maintenance and projects relating to their maintenance, repair, and/or construction, projects include but are not limited to care of turf, grounds, equipment, and facilities in City parks to ensure proper safety, sanitation, and function./liliProvide maintenance and care of turf areas, flower gardens, trees, and shrubs for assigned areas. /liliMaintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide variety of operational systems including hydraulics, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, mechanical and pneumatics./liliRepair lighting, ballasts, fixtures, fuses, breakers, and solenoids./liliMaintain City trees in accordance with the City of Wasilla’s Urban Forestry Management Plan./liliMaintain and repair wooden structures, rock walls, patios, concrete, and metal./liliMaintain and service irrigation systems./liliUtilize necessary hand and power tools associated with maintenance and repair work to include but not limited to saws, drills, drill press, power grinders, pumps, and generators in a manner consistent with safety principles and practices./liliInstruct and direct maintenance employees as required and supervise temporary summer workers by directing the work to completion./liliRead and interpret operating manuals, technical repair manuals, schematic drawings, etc./liliOperate equipment to include but not limited to tractors, backhoes, dump trucks, front-end loaders, and other specialized equipment for the purpose of completing job duties./liliOversee and ensure safe work methods and ensure appropriate use of related safety equipment as required and coordinate/maintain safety training for PP employees./liliRepair and maintain playground equipment and ensure that appropriate inspection records are created and maintained./li/ulul style="margin-bottom: 3pt; margin-top: 0"li style="margin: 0"Restore equipment by performing routine maintenance and repairs./li/ulul style="margin-left: 0; margin-bottom: 3pt"liOperate snow removal equipment to maintain streets, sidewalks, and bike paths./liliReplace worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts in machines and equipment such as truck, street sweeper, and riding mower./liliSupport other departments when needed./li/ulul style="margin-bottom: 3pt; margin-top: 0"li style="margin: 0"Carry out staff management function by hiring and training staff./lili style="margin: 0"Procure outside assistance on projects by soliciting bids and overseeing contractors./lili style="margin: 0"Perform other job-related duties and special job assignments or projects as assigned. . /li/ul/ph2Minimum Qualifications/h2pul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"liKnowledge of repairing wood and metal structures and playground structures. /liliAbility to communicate effectively and express ideas clearly and concisely both in oral and written communications. /liliAbility to read and interpret construction drawings. /liliAbility to enter manholes and work in confined spaces. /liliAbility to operate heavy equipment and hand tools./li/ulul style="margin-bottom: 3pt; margin-top: 0"li style="margin: 0"Homeland Security orientation tests (Incident Command Systems) will be required as a term of employment taken on-line Entry level ICS-100 within fifteen days of date hire and ICS-200, ICS-700, and ICS-800 within 45 days of date of hire. /li/ul/ph2Other Qualifications/h2pul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"liHigh school diploma, GED or equivalent./liliThree to five years' experience in parks, construction, maintenance, or equivalent combination of the three. Experience to include operating heavy equipment./li/ulul style="margin-bottom: 3pt; margin-top: 0"li style="margin: 0"Must possess a valid State of Alaska Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 12-months from date of hire and be able to operate a motor vehicle. /lili style="margin: 0"Must provide a current driving record (dated within 30 days of request) from the State of Alaska Department of Motor Vehicles. /li/ulul style="margin-bottom: 3pt"liMust possess current First Aid and CPR certifications within 12-months from date of hire. /liliCertificate of playground safety established by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) preferred./liliArborist certificate preferred./li/ul/p
