Job Description
Responsibilities and Duties
Loading and Unloading: Carefully loading and organizing products in the delivery vehicle, and then unloading them at the destination. This may involve using equipment like hand trucks or dollies.
Warehouse: Correctly picking orders and putting away freight.
Following Routes: Adhering to assigned routes and time schedules to ensure timely deliveries. This often requires using a GPS or other routing systems and being able to navigate different areas.
Vehicle Operation and Maintenance: Operating a delivery vehicle (car, van, truck, etc.) safely and courteously. This includes performing pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any maintenance issues, and keeping the vehicle clean.
Customer Interaction: Providing professional and courteous service to customers, which may involve verifying orders, collecting signatures, and processing payments. They may also need to handle customer inquiries or complaints.
Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of deliveries, including logging delivery times, mileage, and any issues that arise.
Safety and Regulations: Adhering to all traffic laws, safety procedures, and company policies. This is a critical component to maintaining a safe driving record.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is often required.
Licensing: A valid driver's license is mandatory, and some roles may require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) depending on the size of the vehicle.
Driving Record: A clean driving record with no major traffic violations is almost always a requirement.
Physical Fitness: The ability to lift and carry heavy packages (often specified with a weight limit, such as up to 50 lbs), and to walk, stand, and drive for extended periods.
Skills: Strong time management, organizational, and customer service skills are crucial. Candidates should also be detail-oriented and have good communication and problem-solving abilities.
