Job Summary:
The Front Office Receptionist at GSB will be responsible for accurate and timely patient registration utilizing medical systems. This role involves using the facility's medical necessity tool to verify appropriate patient insurance coverage, all performed according to established policies and procedures. The associate will provide exceptional customer service to physicians, patients, family members, and all other medical professionals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting them in person or on the telephone, answering or referring inquiries.
- Notes patient arrival in Practice Management System (EMR).
- Identifies patients by date of birth and name in the computer system, creating new accounts for patients not already in the system.
- Prepares necessary patient paperwork prior to patient appointments.
- Calls “No Show” appointments to reschedule, making appropriate notations in the Practice Management System and sending letters to patients when necessary.
- Optimizes patient satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone and comforts patients by anticipating their anxieties and answering their questions.
- Assists in emergency situations by quickly responding to patients in distress with good reasoning and judgment.
- Reviews the Practice Management System (EMR) for information that needs to be updated, working with patients to obtain updated information and accurately entering it into the system.
- Identifies payer sources, verifies insurance eligibility, financial status, and assigns the correct payor type. Verifies if prior authorization from insurance is required; notifies the Billing Department if necessary.
- Maintains a clean and organized reception area.
- Records and updates financial information, collecting patient copays and/or balances at check-in/out.
- Maintains confidentiality of personal and financial information to protect patients’ rights.
- Follows all policies and procedures, reporting any changes as needed to maintain operations.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Demonstrates superior customer service skills routinely.
- Answers the telephone in a timely and polite manner.
- Communicates with patients, visitors, providers, and team members in a courteous, professional, cooperative, and mature manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Practice Manager or Area Practice Manager.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required; Associates Degree preferred
- 1 year customer service experience in a healthcare office preferred
