Unit Overview: Cath Lab / IR / EP / Recovery
Required Certifications
- ARRT or ICRS
- ACLS
Note:
Do NOT submit travelers with any license infractions related to med diversion or patient endangerment. These will result in immediate contract cancellation.
Facility & Procedures
- Rooms:
- 3 rooms currently
- 4th room opening in March (Hybrid OR room)
- Nurses may assist in CT, Ultrasound, and MRI for procedures/sedations
- Average Cases per Day:
- 17 (Cath Labs)
- 22–23 (total with all areas)
Patient Types / Common Diagnoses
- Cath Lab:
- Diagnostic & interventional
- Rotablator, Shockwave
- Right heart diagnostics (prep for structural at other locations)
- Impella starting next year
- Interventional Radiology (IR):
- Ports, G-tubes, drains
- Nephrostomies, biliary drains
- Embolizations/coiling (less frequent)
- Dialysis lines, other lines
- Electrophysiology (EP):
- Ablations, device implants, temporary pacers
- Anesthesia present for all EP cases
- Travelers assist EP only if skills validated by manager
Job Duties
- Procedure Nurses:
- Circulate and monitor patients
- May float to CT, US, MRI for procedure assistance
- Recovery Nurses:
- Recover patients in 17-bed recovery area
- Handle conscious sedation for bone marrow aspirations, bronchoscopies, cardioversions
Experience & Skills Required
- Ventilator and pressor management (procedure room)
- Conscious sedation (for recovery nurses)
Technology / Equipment
- EMR: Epic
- Equipment: GE MACLab, Siemens X-ray, PACS
Staffing Details
- Cardiologists:
- In-house 7am–7pm (Mon–Fri)
- On-call outside those hours
- Cath Lab Techs:
- 10 techs daily (if fully staffed)
- 3 techs per room
- On-call: 2 techs per team
- Leadership:
- Charge Nurse & Supervisor Tech
Scheduling & Call
- Shifts:
- 4x10s (9:00am–7:30pm)
- 1 on-call shift/week
- Every 3rd or 4th weekend
- Overtime available
- Call Requirements:
- Mandatory call
- Response Time:
- 30 minutes for procedure nurses and techs
- 45 minutes for recovery nurses
- Holiday Rotation:
- 1 holiday/year, rotated with perm staff
Other Details
- Floating: None required
- Scrub Color: Provided by facility
- Orientation: 2 weeks, dependent on experience
