Strategic Procurement Director

Optimal, on behalf of its client, a well-established firm in the marine industry, is looking for a Strategic Procurement Director (Marine Lubricants & Bunkers).

 Responsibilities:

• Design, develop and execute the Group’s procurement strategy, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives and financial targets, while fostering long-term strategic partnerships with key global suppliers
• Develop and implement risk mitigation plans to proactively identify and address potential threats, including quality issues, supply shortages, and geopolitical challenges
• Represent the Group in high-stakes negotiations and forums, using strong influencing and lobbying skills to secure the best possible commercial terms
• Lead comprehensive market research and supplier performance assessments, driving data-driven decisions by analyzing pricing, credit terms, logistics and suppliers’ capacity for innovation
• Drive the digital transformation of the procurement function by promoting the use of AI, data analytics and other digital tools to enhance efficiency, transparency, and decision-making
• Act as a strategic advisor to the management team on matters concerning procurement, market intelligence and global supply chain trends

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management, with a proven track record within the marine lubricants and/or bunkers industry
• University degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, or a related field. An MSc or MBA will be considered a plus
• Solid understanding of global market dynamics and risk management
• Excellent analytical skills
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills with the confidence to represent the Group at C-level with partners, authorities etc
• Proficiency in English and MS Office
• Ability to understand and apply digital and AI technologies to modernize procurement operations
