Position Summary:

All personnel in this position are responsible for performing excellent quality diagnostic radiography and CT imaging exams under the direction of a radiologist or referring provider, and taking call for after hours surgical procedures. Certain individuals will also be accountable for delegated areas of authority, maintaining quality assurance and quality control records, training new imaging department personnel or radiologic technology students or serving on specific hospital committees as requested.

Additional education/certification may be required for specific radiographic modalities such as mammography.

Areas of Responsibility:
  • Major Responsibilities, Competencies and Tasks
  • Interprets referring provider orders for appropriate exam selection and performance. Acquires appropriate patient history for each exam.
  • Ensures that all patients are attended to and treated with kind, respectful and compassionate care.
  • Safely transfers and properly positions patients for exams to obtain quality radiographic images in accordance to radiologist's specifications. Provides patients with immobilization as necessary and appropriate radiation protection in accordance with radiation safety guidelines.
  • Prepares and administers contrast for various exams. Assists radiologists or other providers in performing exams.
  • Competent in operating radiographic and CT equipment, selecting proper technical factors for each individual patient.
  • Responsibly and professionally handles and maintains equipment and promptly reports any malfunction or failure to the Imaging Manager.
  • Maintains stock supplies and responsibly uses supplies.
  • Competent in operating the PACS, CRTIS, Radiant & Excellian systems. Maintain and update patient records for proper billing of exams. Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to all HIPAA regulations.
  • Infection Control/Safety- Follows all hospital and department specific infection control policies. Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination. Patient exam rooms, supply storage and tech work areas are kept clean, organized and tidy at all times.
  • Follows all hospital and department specific safety policies.
  • Follows specific personnel radiation protection policies.
  • Recognizes that continuing education is an integral component for providing competent and professional services and takes advantage of every opportunity to learn information regarding radiology topics and technology.
  • Rotates within the imaging department, works various shifts including weekends, holidays, and takes surgical call, as required.

  • Orthopedic Center of Excellence skills as listed below to include Hip, Knee, Shoulder and Spine procedures.
  • Take images of hip/knee, spine/shoulder in the OR with the portable unit.
  • Take images of hip/knee, spine/shoulder in the OR with the c-arm unit.
  • Understand the sterile field in the OR and how to work around it.
  • Take images in PACU of specified hip/knee.
  • Understand the proper techniques for cleaning the portable units and c-arm before and after hip/knee, spine/shoulder surgical case.
  • Education per current DNV requirements as defined by CR.5 DNV regulatory guidelines. Education to include two hours on hire and annually.

    Requirements:
    • Education and degree required from an accredited radiology program.
    • License/Certification: ARRT in radiography, or obtains certification within 3 months of hire.
    • Experience with patient care.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience and competency in radiographic diagnostic procedures, including but not limited to general radiographic exams including and special procedures, surgical (C-Arm) exams, portable exams, trauma exams and CT preferred but not required.
    • Certified in BLS or will be certified within 3 months of hire.
