RN ER Days/Mids/Nights
REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Associate degree required, bachelor degree preferred.
• Current Compact or CO RN License.
• Current BLS certification.
• Current PALS (NRP for FBC)- Can be obtain at the facility
• Current ACLS certification
• Successful completion of EKG course
• Unit Specific requirements:
• ER: Minimum of 1 year ER/Inpatient experience preferred.
• ER: TNCC Course Completion
• FBC: Successful completion of basic fetal monitoring course
ROLE PURPOSE: Administer nursing care to patients in an efficient, safe, and courteous manner using appropriate nursing procedures. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/area's/department's policies and procedures. The nurse must be clinically competent to care for patients, knowledgeable about disease processes and can identify symptoms or complications. He or she must have the ability to utilize information technologies to meet patient needs and provide evidence-based knowledge at the point of care to improve health outcomes.
3. SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL ROLE FUNCTIONS: • Practices within Nursing Standards of Practice (both general and specialty specific) and follows SHS Policies and Procedures, Patient Bill of Rights, and Accreditation Standards. • Operates within scope of position. Demonstrates current comprehensive, evidence based, professional knowledge and skills. • Focus on patient centered care, team building and customer service. • Maintains a knowledge of basic arrhythmia interpretation. • Supervises non-professional staff in delivery of care to assigned patients. Make work assignments, assists with priority setting, acts as a resource for less experienced staff. • Assists physicians in care of the patients. Makes rounds, assists with procedures, provides progress reports on patient status, and assures that orders are carried out. • Adheres to all regulations, policies and procedures regarding medication administration. • Assumes professional responsibility for assuring the highest level of patient care is provided. Communicates concerns about medical or nursing care through SHS’s chain of command. • Participates in educational programs as both student and teacher. Takes initiative and primary responsibility for keeping own knowledge and skills current. • Participates in departmental meetings, and all other educational opportunities as required. • Assists in peer and staff evaluations, data collection and chart reviews as requested. • Adheres to standards of safety and infection control in delivery of patient care. • Assists nursing staff in other departments as requested when need arises. • Initiates a patient plan of care on admission including co-morbidities and revise as needed based on patient care standards (if appropriate to specialty). • Responds promptly to changes in workload, adjusting assignments as necessary to provide optimal care and meet the needs of the unit. • Consistently, is aware of the patient's status during hospital stay and works with other health care team members as required to adjust and improve patient’s care. • Demonstrates the ability to utilize critical thinking skills for patient care. • Evaluates interventions appropriately and assesses the effectiveness of care. Communicates and re-evaluates as needed. • Documents nursing care in a timely and accurate manner following approved policies. • Follows SHS and regulatory policy and procedures for documentation. • Participates in on-going personal and professional development. • Demonstrates knowledge of current hospital and department policies and procedures.
HEALTH SYSTEM
• Collaborates in a cooperative manner and with a positive attitude toward others. • Acts as a resource for other team members and students as needed by providing help and accurate information when requested. • Demonstrates flexibility with working hours and shifts scheduled in order to meet staffing requirements within department. • Adheres to SHS attendance and punctuality policies to ensure department is operating in an efficient and cost-effective manner. • Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness. • Performs other duties as assigned.
4. MINIMUM ROLE REQUIREMENTS: • Adheres to dress code; appearance is clean and neat. • Completes annual educational requirements, both regulatory and organizational. • Maintains regulatory requirements including all state, federal and accreditation regulations. • Ensures patient confidentiality. • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety, and infection control. • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. • Communicates the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
5. ROLE ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS: Regulatory/Educational Requirements • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Associate degree required, bachelor degree preferred. • Current Registered Nurse Licensure, within state of Colorado. • Current BLS certification. • Current PALS (NRP for FBC) certification within 6 months of hire, 12 months if a new graduate. • Current ACLS certification within 6 months of hire, 12 months if a new graduate. • Successful completion of EKG course within 4 months of hire (Med/surg only). • Unit Specific requirements: • ER: Minimum of 1 year ER/Inpatient experience preferred. • ER: TNCC Course Completion within 12 months of hire. • FBC: Successful completion of basic fetal monitoring course within 4 months of hire. Language Skills • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. • Additional languages preferred. • Excellent customer service skills. Skills • Basic computer knowledge. • Strong communication skills. Work Environment • The job requires potential exposure to infectious waste and an assortment of chemicals and pharmaceuticals as well as foul odors. • The noise level is moderate to occasionally loud, occasional interactions with belligerent and/or aggressive patients and significant others are possible. • Exposure to environmental factors including heat, cold, precipitation such as snow and rain, and wind is possible. Physical Demands • For physical demands of position, including vision, hearing, repetitive motion and environment, see following description. 1. Physical Demands (STRENGTH – HEAVY): Exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. 2. Physical Demands (MOVEMENT): This position will require the full range of movements, and repetition of motion, to include kneeling, crouching, reaching and feeling. 3. Physical Demands (AUDITORY): TALKING - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is important for those activities in which workers must impart oral information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. HEARING - perceiving the nature of sounds. Used for those activities which require ability to receive detailed
information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sounds. 4. Physical Demands (VISION): ACCOMMODATION - Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. Use this factor when requiring near point work at varying distances.
