Sign Language Interpreter in Portales, NM

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A position is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support K-12 students in a school setting located in Portales, NM. This contract role spans the 2025-2026 school year, providing vital communication access for deaf and hard-of-hearing students through professional interpretation services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate accurate and effective sign language interpretation for students, teachers, and staff during classroom instruction and school activities.
• Collaborate with educators to ensure accessible communication and promote an inclusive learning environment.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics and standards in all interpreting assignments.
• Participate in ongoing training and development to uphold certification requirements and improve service quality.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 4.0 EIPA score including the written portion and active RID certification, OR
• Valid New Mexico Educator certification specifically for interpreting K-12 students
• Strong knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and educational interpreting practices.
• Experience working with children and youth in educational or therapeutic settings is highly preferred.

Job Details:

• Contract duration: August 4th, 2025 June 6th, 2026
• Work schedule: 35 hours per week, 5 days per week
• Location: K-12 school in Portales, NM
