Perform preoperative holding area duties; perform direct and indirect perioperative nursing tasks for pediatric and adult patients having surgical and endoscopy procedures; assist the RN in the preoperative holding and assist anesthesia personnel. Demonstrate competence in Central Sterile./spanbrspan style="font-size: 15px"Under the supervisor of a qualified surgeon, perform the second assisting duties during the surgical procedure. Perform all tasks in a manner that is cost-effective without compromising quality of care; participate in departmental quality assessment and improvement activities; meet hospital continuing education and certification requirements. Certified as a surgical technologist or in pursuit of certification. Current CPR certification. One year experience as an operating room technician. Must have good communication skills, verbal and written.   /span/p pbr/p pspan style="font-size: 15px; font-weight: bold"ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:/span/p pspan style="font-size: 15px" Preoperative Duties:/span/p ol lispan style="font-size: 15px"Identify the patient./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Ensure that extraneous objects such as jewelry and prostheses have been removed from the patient./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Transport patients to the surgical suite./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Performs shave preps./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Review the preoperative checklist in accordance with OR policy and procedure./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Take and record vital signs and report deviations to physician or registered nurse./span/li /ol pspan style="font-size: 15px"Intraoperative Duties:/span/p ol lispan style="font-size: 15px"Assist in placing and positioning the patient on the OR bed for all surgical procedures./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Tie and secure sterile gowns./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Don sterile gloves using the open glove method./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Hold extremities during the operative prep./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Apply monitor leads, pulse oximeters, and blood pressure cuffs./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Assist anesthesia personnel with the administration of general and regional anesthesia/span/li /ol pspan style="font-size: 15px"Postoperative Duties:/span/p ol lispan style="font-size: 15px"Transport postoperative patients to the patient care unit after local procedures./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Assist the RN and anesthetists in transporting postoperative patients to the post-anesthesia recovery unit./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Transport patient specimens, cultures, blood and body fluids to pathology and the laboratory./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Perform OR sanitation tasks./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Clean anesthesia machines after use and change breathing circuits./span/li lispan style="font-size: 15px"Stock OR and anesthesia carts with supplies./span/li /ol
