Job Description
We are seeking a Medical Assistant to become a part of our team! You will perform routine administrative and clinical assignments to keep the medical facility running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Intake and Preparation:
Greet and check in patients, verify demographic and insurance information, and escort patients to exam rooms.
Obtain and record patient medical histories, vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, temperature), and other relevant data in electronic health records (EHR).
Prepare patients for examinations or procedures as directed by the Nurse Practitioner.
Clinical Support:
Assist the Nurse Practitioner during patient examinations, minor procedures, and treatments.
Perform routine clinical tasks, such as administering subcutaneous, intradermal, or intramuscular injections (e.g., vaccinations), as delegated and under direct supervision.
Conduct basic office laboratory procedures, including urine dipstick tests, rapid strep tests, or pregnancy tests, following established protocols.
Perform venipuncture for blood draws and administer skin tests (e.g., tuberculin tests) with proper training.
Prepare and sterilize medical instruments and maintain exam room cleanliness and organization.
Conduct electrocardiograms (ECGs) and assist with wound care, such as suture removal or dressing changes, under supervision.
Administrative Duties:
Schedule patient appointments, coordinate follow-ups, and manage patient flow to optimize office efficiency.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in compliance with HIPAA and office policies.
Handle phone calls, emails, and other correspondence, including responding to patient inquiries as directed.
Process insurance claims, manage billing, and handle office financial transactions.
Order and maintain inventory of medical and office supplies.
Patient Education and Communication:
Provide patients with instructions for diagnostic tests, procedures, or follow-up care as directed by the Nurse Practitioner.
Communicate effectively with patients to ensure a positive and supportive experience.
Compliance and Safety:
Adhere to all Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure and Mississippi Board of Nursing regulations regarding scope of practice for medical assistants.
Maintain patient confidentiality and follow infection control protocols.
Ensure competency in all delegated tasks and seek clarification from the supervising Nurse Practitioner when needed.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in healthcare administration or other related fields
- Familiarity with medical billing procedures
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
