Job Description
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education, active DHH teaching certification, and 1+ years Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A full-time teaching opportunity is available for a Math instructor specializing in Grades 9-12 with experience in American Sign Language (ASL) or a willingness to work with an interpreter. This role focuses on serving deaf and hard of hearing high school students, with a caseload of approximately 55 students across four classes, including HS Algebra and Personal Finance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high school level Math instruction, including Algebra and Personal Finance, to students with diverse learning needs.
- Adapt teaching methods to support students whose reading levels range from 1st to 4th grade.
- Collaborate with support staff and interpreters to ensure effective munication and learning for deaf and hard of hearing students.
- Maintain and monitor student progress, providing tailored interventions to support academic success.
- Engage with families and colleagues to foster a supportive learning environment.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Teaching certification valid for Grades 9-12 Math.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language preferred; applicants without ASL skills may be considered for part-time roles with provided interpreters.
- Experience working with deaf or hard of hearing students highly preferred.
- Background in special education or experience supporting special needs students is a plus.
- Ability to manage a diverse classroom and implement differentiated instructional approaches.
