Job Summary:The Part-time Tutor for the Language Lab has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, supporting students’ academic success by assisting in understanding a range of subjects, with a primary focus on language acquisition, geared toward students whose first language is not English. The Part-time Tutor for the Language Lab’s role involves guiding students through grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading and writing skills, reviewing class materials, explaining challenging topics and providing responses to student questions and concerns. This is a non-exempt position that reports to LSCPA’s Title V Department.
Minimum Qualifications:- Demonstrated proficiency, through assessment, in specific tutoring subject areas such as reading, writing, and mathematics instruction that lead to college readiness
- Strong knowledge specific language and grammar systems
- Experience with various teaching methods, including online learning platforms
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong decision-making skills
- Must be bilingual
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching experience
- Associate’s degree
- Blackboard experience
SALARY :
$14.00/hr
Work Hours:Varies; dependent upon semester scheduling needs
Essential Job Functions:Conduct online lessons in a structured and comprehensive manner
Manage any technical issues related to the online learning platform
Update availability regularly to ensure accurate scheduling for students
Keep and submits records of tutorials and other related job activities, as requested by Language Lab Facilitators
Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring virtually for students with emphasis on study strategies; consults with individual students to identify their needs in a variety of academic subjects
Monitor work and attendance and alert faculty to any problem or special information about a student
Desire to assist students with special needs in a learning environment
Ability to adapt instructional techniques to meet diverse learning needs
Other related duties, as assigned
