ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be expected to undertake a robust research program in a well-defined area of scholarship with clear connections to pre-K-12 education policy. The candidate should have a publication record and a record of seeking and/or securing external funding commensurate with level. The candidate will be expected to teach and advise graduate students in the department’s MS, PhD, and online EDD programs and to participate in the Institute for Governance and Civics programming. Responsibilities include:
- Engaging in a well-defined scholarly agenda with clear connections to pre-K-12 education policy.
- Developing and submitting grant proposals, solely and with colleagues, to appropriate funding agencies.
- Teaching graduate courses in the MS, PhD, and EdD programs related to education policy and/or research methods.
- Providing service to the department, the institute, and to the profession.
- Earned doctorate in education policy, or related education field, from a college of education, school of public policy and/or from the social science disciplines.
- Evidence of high-quality scholarship (e.g., recent publications in peer reviewed journals, working papers, recent presentations at national or international conferences).
- Commitment to and experience working with students from all backgrounds.
- Ability to teach pre-K-12 education policy courses and/or research methods courses.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
The Institute for Governance and Civics and the Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies (ELPS) in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at Florida State University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-earning assistant-level faculty position with a focus on pre-K-12 education policy.
We welcome applications from scholars engaged in a wide range of theoretical traditions, methodological approaches, and content areas, with a particular interest in quantitative methods and in educational governance and finance including market-based reforms, school choice, accountability, and the role of parents.
The roots of FSU’s Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences date back to the university’s establishment, and it is the oldest college of its kind in Florida. Recently expanded in 2023, the College is home to six academic departments united through a common goal to maximize human potential. In total, the College includes the Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies, Department of Educational Psychology & Learning Systems, Department of Human Development & Family Sciences, Department of Health, Nutrition & Food Sciences, Department of Sport Management, School of Teacher Education, numerous research centers, and three laboratory schools (Florida State University School, FSU Pembroke Pines Charter School, and The Collegiate School at FSU Panama City). Anne’s College serves over 4,000 students via 201 full-time faculty and 76 full-time staff.
