Job Title: Machine Operator

Reports To: Manufacturing Supervisor/Plant Manager
SUMMARY
Operates machines, such as lathes or slotters to specifications, tooling instructions, and standard charts, applying knowledge of machining methods: Read job order for product specifications, such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions, such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and determines sequence of operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Selects, positions, and secures tool in toolholder.
- Positions and secures work piece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures, using clamps and wrenches
- Moves controls to position tool and workpiece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut
- Turns handwheel to feed tool to workpiece or vice versa, and engages feed
- Turns valve handle to direct flow of coolant, cutting oil or air against tool and workpiece
- Observes operation of machine and verifies conformance of machined workpiece to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers
- Notifies supervisor of discrepancies
- Practices safe work habits, maintains workplace in good order, and wears all applicable personal protective equipment in the workplace.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
COMPETENCE, AWARENESS AND TRAINING
Competence, awareness, and training for probationary employees will be assessed by the New Employee Checklist, and the evaluation conducted at 60 days, along with other training as needed. Competence, awareness, and training for regular employees will be assessed when annual evaluations are conducted, along with other measurements in accordance with the area the employee is assigned to.
Scheduled hours: Monday - Friday 6:30 AM 3:00 PM
No overtime
Compensation details: 20 Hourly Wage
