JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/ Objectives
The Fabrication Tech fabricates raw metal into assemblies using tools such as welders, plasma cutters, shears, saws, lathes, metal workers, etc. Team members fabricate, inspect, debur, and perform general paint prep steps on clean metal.
Essential Functions

- Operates fabrication shop and machine shop machinery and equipment. Reads blueprints to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
- Builds jigs to specific lengths and correct measurements.
- Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions. Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Cleans or degreases weld joint or workpiece. Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes. Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
- Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust or scale from the workpiece. Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
- Positions and clamps workpieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.
- Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies or workpieces.
- Sets up and performs maintenance on fab and machine shop machines and performs burning work.
- Occasionally, may position the workpiece against stops or align layout marks with die or blade.
- Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
- Complies with all OSHA and PCE safety rules.
- Operates any equipment needed to perform a job.
- Accurately records time worked and allocates time to the appropriate job(s).

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the manufacturing environment can be loud.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The team member must frequently lift or move items up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type & Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Opportunities to work extended hours and on the weekend, work may be optional or required as job duties demand.
Travel
No travel is regularly expected for this position.
Required Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED diploma, or three to six months related experience (in farming, construction, carpentry, or manufacturing) or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education & Experience
- Fabrication certificate received from trade school.
- Three to six months+ work experience in fabrication or welding.
- Three to six months+ experience safely operating machines.
