Produce Clerk

pPURPOSE OF POSITION:br/· nbsp;The Produce Clerk is responsible for assisting and servicing customers in the Producebr/department. He/she stocks and replenishes the produce cases and counters. This includesbr/the use of wheeled carts to transport product from the cooler/prep areas to the sales floor.br/He/she is responsible for rotation and culling of product when necessary. He/she mustbr/have excellent customer service skills, as they may work one on one with customers.br/He/she must also take down product at night when necessary. Produce clerks also dobr/some preparation of food products including trimming vegetables, salad bar preparation,br/fruit baskets, and cut fruit. He/she must maintain product quality by reviewing codes andbr/visual observation of product. He/she must maintain the Produce area in a clean/sanitarybr/and visually appealing manner.br/ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:br/· nbsp;This position reports to: Produce Manager, Assistant Produce Managerbr/· nbsp;Position(s)that report directly to this position: nonebr/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:br/· nbsp;Work in a courteous manner in a fast paced multi functional environment alone or withbr/other people.br/· nbsp;Work in a cool damp environment.br/· nbsp;Load and unload product weighing up to 60 lbs. from pallets stacked to a height of 6 feet.br/· nbsp;Lift and load 5-60 lb cases onto stock carts and push or pull cart to stocking area.br/· nbsp;Remove product from cartons and replenish produce cases and counters with product.br/· nbsp;Must work quickly and carefully while stocking items at a reasonable expectancy (R/E).br/· nbsp;Visually identify product and read display signs.br/· nbsp;Reading display information and other documents when necessary.br/· nbsp;Taking verbal orders over the telephone and writing down pertinent information.br/· nbsp;Prepare food product to be displayed in cases (salad bar, cut fruit, etc).br/· nbsp;Use a knife to trim product. This requires repetitive motion.br/· nbsp;Visually identify and remove poor quality product from counters.br/· nbsp;Interact and communicate with others in a courteous and professional manner includingbr/greeting and thanking customers.br/· nbsp;Deal with some potentially difficult situations (such as dissatisfied customers).br/JOB DESCRIPTIONbr/Revised June 2003br/ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:br/· nbsp;Perform floral clerk functions.br/· nbsp;Prepare special customer requests such as platters.br/· nbsp;Lift and load product weighing up to 70 lbs.br/· nbsp;Sweep, clean up, and sanitize workstation as assigned by supervisor.br/· nbsp;Cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, and other supply items.br/· nbsp;Clean display cases and fill supplies when needed.br/· nbsp;Other duties as assigned.br/ASSIGNMENT, REVIEW, AND APPROVAL OF WORK:br/· nbsp;The Produce Manager or Asst. Produce Manager generally assigns the work.br/· nbsp;Produce clerk should review and get approval from his/her supervisor prior to performingbr/any work that was not previously assigned.br/· nbsp;The Produce Manager generally prepares work schedules on a weekly basis.br/· nbsp;Time off requests should be made directly to the Produce Manager within the appropriatebr/time constraints as dictated by the individual manager’s preference.br/RESPONSIBILITY AND DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY:br/· nbsp;Responsible to wait on the customer and provide good customer service includingbr/suggestive selling.br/· nbsp;Have a good knowledge of product in the department.br/· nbsp;Produce clerks are not to leave their assignment without notifying the supervisor on duty.br/· nbsp;Responsible for knowing and understanding all Produce specific policies and procedures.br/· nbsp;Responsible for performing their work in a safe and ergonomically correct manner.br/· nbsp;Any unsafe working conditions must be reported to the supervisor on duty immediately.br/RELATIONS WITH OTHERS:br/· nbsp;Must be able to relate to the following in a courteous and professional manner:br/o Customersbr/o Supervisorsbr/o Co-workersbr/o Store Managementbr/o Other people with whom they have contact while on dutybr/KNOWLEDGE AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED:br/· nbsp;Must be at least 16 years old.br/· nbsp;If under 18 years old, a work permit or educational certificate may be required.br/· nbsp;Excellent customer service skills.br/· nbsp;On the job training is provided.br/KNOWLEDGE AND BACKGROUND DESIRED:br/· nbsp;Prior food handling experience.br/· nbsp;Prior stocking experience.br/· nbsp;Ability to work quickly and accurately.br/· nbsp;High school graduate or currently enrolled in school.br/JOB DESCRIPTIONbr/Revised June 2003br/WORKING CONDITIONS:br/· nbsp;Stores are usually open 7 days a week.br/· nbsp;Part time associates usually work between 8 and 36 hours a week.br/· nbsp;Full time associates usually work 40 hours a week.br/· nbsp;Produce clerk requires the performance of repetitive tasks.br/· nbsp;Produce clerk requires significant lifting and carrying of product.br/· nbsp;Retail store conditions are generally dry with moderate temperature.br/· nbsp;Produce back room conditions are generally cool/cold and damp/wet.br/· nbsp;Cooler conditions may be wet or dry, and usually cold.br/· nbsp;Freezer conditions are usually very cold.br/· nbsp;A hair restraint must be worn at all times.br/· nbsp;Associates in the Produce are usually scheduled according to peak customer times.br/GENERAL:br/· nbsp;This may be a part time or full time position.br/· nbsp;This is considered an entry-level position.br/· nbsp;Food safety awareness is required in this position.br/MISCELLANEOUS:br/· nbsp;It is important to understand that all Produce clerks must have the ability to deal withbr/some potentially difficult situations (such as dissatisfied customers) to perform thisbr/position in a satisfactory manner.br/This position and job description are subject to change, with or without notice.
