Histology Technician
Location: Morton, IL
Schedule: Full-Time | Set 8-hour shifts (Days, Evenings, or Nights)
Salary Range: $29.30 – $34.47/hour

Job Summary:
A reputable pathology laboratory near Morton, IL is seeking a Histology Technician to join its team. This position focuses primarily on cutting and embedding, with the possibility of performing special stains if the candidate is experienced with the lab’s equipment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and eager to support a fast-paced histology department dedicated to quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Embed and cut paraffin tissue blocks using a microtome

• Float and mount tissue sections onto glass slides for staining

• Perform special stains as needed and as trained

• Prepare and maintain solutions and reagents according to established protocols

• Assist pathologists with specimen grossing and autopsy procedures as needed

• Maintain laboratory equipment, perform routine maintenance, and document quality assurance activities

• Log and track tissue specimens accurately

• Instruct new histology staff or students on techniques and equipment use

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with safety and regulatory standards

• Stay current with histology trends and lab procedures through continuing education

Schedule Details:

• Set shifts: Monday–Friday (8-hour shifts: AM, PM, or Night)

• AM shift includes rotating Saturday mornings (approx. 1/month); a weekday off is provided when scheduled for Saturday

• No on-call responsibility

• Holidays rarely required; if worked, paid at time and a half

Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree in a science-related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

• Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnology program required within 1 year of hire

• ASCP certification required within 1 year of employment

• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
