About the Role:
The EMT-Basic plays a critical role in providing immediate medical care and transportation to patients in emergency situations. This position requires rapid assessment, stabilization, and treatment of individuals experiencing medical emergencies or traumatic injuries. The EMT-Basic serves as the first point of contact in the pre-hospital care continuum, ensuring patients receive timely and effective interventions while en route to healthcare facilities. Collaboration with other emergency responders and healthcare professionals is essential to deliver coordinated care. Ultimately, the EMT-Basic contributes significantly to improving patient outcomes through skilled, compassionate, and efficient emergency medical services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid EMT-Basic certification
- Current CPR certification
- Physical capability to perform emergency medical procedures and lift or move patients as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in emergency medical services or related healthcare settings.
- Additional certifications such as First Aid, AED, or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Familiarity with local geography and emergency response protocols.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in high-stress environments.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Responsibilities:
- Respond promptly to emergency calls and provide basic life support care to patients at the scene and during transport.
- Perform patient assessments to determine the nature and extent of illness or injury and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Operate emergency vehicles safely and efficiently while adhering to all traffic laws and protocols.
- Document patient care reports accurately and communicate vital information to receiving medical personnel.
- Maintain and inspect medical equipment and supplies to ensure readiness for emergency response.
Skills:
The EMT-Basic utilizes strong clinical skills daily to assess patient conditions quickly and provide appropriate basic life support interventions. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with patients, families, and other emergency personnel to ensure clear and accurate information exchange. Physical stamina and dexterity are required to perform tasks such as lifting patients and operating emergency equipment safely. Problem-solving skills enable the EMT-Basic to adapt to rapidly changing situations and make critical decisions under pressure. Additionally, organizational skills are important for maintaining equipment readiness and completing thorough documentation to support continuity of care.
