Job Description
Summary
The Maintenance Mechanic with Electrical Experience and PLC Knowledge will be responsible for maintaining, and repairing industrial machinery and equipment, including forklifts, associated battery systems, HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers). They will also handle routine maintenance tasks for the warehouse facility. This role is critical to ensuring smooth and efficient operations by minimizing downtime and maximizing equipment and facility reliability within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Responsibilities
· Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on production machinery and equipment.
· Conduct routine forklift maintenance including battery checks, fluid levels (oil, water, hydraulic fluid), tire condition and pressure, and the condition of forks, overhead guards, and safety features.
· Safely change forklift batteries according to established procedures, including using proper lifting techniques and wearing appropriate safety gear.
· Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical malfunctions, including issues related to motors, control panels, wiring, sensors, and other electrical components.
· Troubleshoot and repair PLCs, HMIs, and other automation system components.
· Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to identify faults and determine repair procedures.
· Utilize hand and power tools safely and effectively for maintenance and repair tasks.
· Maintain electrical systems and components up to 480V, ensuring compliance with relevant electrical codes and regulations.
· Perform routine warehouse maintenance tasks including:
o Inspecting, cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting roll-up doors, including tracks, springs, cables, sprockets, and safety mechanisms (e.g., photo-eyes, auto-reverse features).
o Checking and maintaining warehouse lighting systems.
o Performing minor repairs to warehouse flooring and general building infrastructure.
· Work collaboratively with production personnel to address equipment and facility issues and minimize disruptions to operations.
· Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or other documentation systems.
· Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout protocols, proper handling of electrical hazards and battery systems, and safe operation of roll-up doors.
· Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in maintenance processes and equipment/facility reliability.
· Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Proven experience (10 years) as a maintenance mechanic or technician in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
· Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems (including 3-phase, 480V) and components.
· Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and HMI systems.
· Ability to read and interpret ladder logic and program PLCs and HMIs.
· Understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
· Basic welding and cutting skills preferred.
· Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills.
· Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to protocols, especially concerning electrical hazards, battery handling procedures, and safe operation of roll-up doors.
· Flexibility to work overtime and provide on-call support as needed.
Preferred qualifications
· Technical degree or certification in industrial maintenance, electrical technology, or a related field.
· Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent.
· Experience with specific PLC platforms (e.g., Rockwell Automation) and drives certifications.
