Position: Substance Abuse Counselor (RESIDENTIAL, IOP, PHP, OP)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of individuals struggling with substance use? TIME Organization is seeking a dedicated, full-time Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. This role supports clients in Intensive Outpatient (IOP), Partial Hospitalization (PHP), and Outpatient (OP) levels of care.
Key Responsibilities:
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive substance use and psychosocial assessments to identify client treatment needs upon admission and throughout the course of treatment.
Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and the multidisciplinary treatment team.
Provide individual counseling sessions focused on substance use recovery, relapse prevention, coping strategies, and behavioral health stabilization.
Facilitate structured therapeutic group counseling sessions addressing substance use disorder recovery, relapse prevention, life skills, and emotional regulation.
Provide psychoeducation groups on topics such as addiction education, trauma, stress management, communication skills, and recovery maintenance.
Monitor and document client progress toward treatment goals, adjusting treatment interventions as necessary.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, group notes, and discharge summaries in accordance with regulatory and billing standards.
Collaborate with medical staff, peer support specialists, case managers, and residential staff to ensure coordinated care and support for clients.
Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings to review client progress and update treatment strategies.
Assist clients in developing relapse prevention plans and recovery support strategies prior to discharge.
Provide crisis intervention and stabilization support when clients experience emotional or behavioral crises.
Educate clients on coping strategies, recovery resources, and community support systems including 12-step programs and recovery-oriented services.
Support clients in developing daily living skills and behavioral changes necessary for sustained recovery.
Monitor client participation in programming and encourage engagement in therapeutic activities and recovery programming.
Ensure compliance with ASAM Level 3.5 standards, state licensing requirements, and organizational policies.
Assist with intake and admission processes, including orientation to the residential program and program expectations.
Coordinate discharge planning and aftercare services, including referrals to outpatient treatment, housing resources, and community support programs.
Participate in quality improvement activities, program development, and training opportunities.
Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality requirements in accordance with HIPAA and professional licensing standards.
Qualifications:
Certified Addictions Counselor (CAC-AD, CSC-AD, or equivalent credential recognized in the state).
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
Minimum of 1 year experience working with substance use populations in clinical settings.
Strong understanding of co-occurring disorders and trauma-informed care.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, client-centered environment.
Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
