NSC Staffing is seeking 1st Class Shipfitters for a major project in Mississippi, MS.

Position Overview
As a 1st Class Shipfitter, you will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing structural components on naval and commercial vessels. Shipfitters must demonstrate the ability to read and interpret blueprints, layouts, and Navy/ABS standards while working in shipyard environments. Candidates should have experience with steel and aluminum fabrication, knowledge of ship repair terminology, and the ability to work in confined spaces.
Key Responsibilities
Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings to fabricate and install structural components.
Measure, cut, shape, and align metal parts using appropriate shipfitting tools and equipment.
Perform layout and installation of bulkheads, decks, frames, foundations, and other structural assemblies.
Fit and tack-weld parts into position for welding.
Install and align structural components to meet specifications and tolerances.
Safely operate and maintain shipfitting tools (burning equipment, grinders, levels, squares, measuring tools, etc.).
Work effectively in confined spaces, aboard vessels, and at heights as required.
Follow OSHA safety standards and wear proper PPE (hard hats, respirators, harnesses, flotation gear, etc.).
Qualifications & Experience
2–5 years of experience as a Shipfitter in a shipyard or industrial environment.
Proficiency in fitting steel and aluminum structures with tight tolerances.
Ability to read and interpret ship drawings, layouts, and NAVSEA/ABS standards.
Skilled in using measuring devices, cutting torches, grinders, and fabrication tools.
Experience with habitability spaces, foundations, and structural assemblies.
Knowledge of ship compartment naming conventions and repair terminology.
Physically capable of performing shipyard duties in all environments (confined spaces, elevated work, heavy lifting).
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Work Environment
Shipyard, industrial, and onboard vessel settings.
Hands-on fabrication, layout, and installation work requiring attention to detail.
Collaboration with welders, fitters, and helpers to ensure quality and efficiency.
