Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of construction and road maintenance equipment. This includes small engine routers and saws, material melters, stake-body trucks, pickup trucks, backhoes, and skid steers etc. The role requires a strong understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems, as well as the ability to work independently and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on a variety of equipment.
Perform routine preventive maintenance and safety inspections.
Troubleshoot engine and component failures for both gas and diesel-powered equipment.
Maintain and repair small engine tools, such as routers and saws.
Service and repair stakebody trucks, pickup trucks, backhoes, skid steers, and material melters.
Maintain detailed service records for all repairs and maintenance work.
Ensure all work meets OSHA and company safety standards.
Collaborate with operators and supervisors to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime.
Order parts and manage inventory as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
3+ years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or similar role.
Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Experience working with both small engines and heavy machinery.
Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain).
Ability to lift 75+ lbs and work in outdoor environments in various weather conditions.
Preferred:
Certification in heavy equipment or diesel mechanics.
Welding and fabrication experience.
Familiarity with DOT regulations and vehicle inspections.
