Position Summary

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of construction and road maintenance equipment. This includes small engine routers and saws, material melters, stake-body trucks, pickup trucks, backhoes, and skid steers etc. The role requires a strong understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems, as well as the ability to work independently and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on a variety of equipment.

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and safety inspections.

  • Troubleshoot engine and component failures for both gas and diesel-powered equipment.

  • Maintain and repair small engine tools, such as routers and saws.

  • Service and repair stakebody trucks, pickup trucks, backhoes, skid steers, and material melters.

  • Maintain detailed service records for all repairs and maintenance work.

  • Ensure all work meets OSHA and company safety standards.

  • Collaborate with operators and supervisors to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime.

  • Order parts and manage inventory as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 3+ years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or similar role.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

  • Experience working with both small engines and heavy machinery.

  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment.

  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain).

  • Ability to lift 75+ lbs and work in outdoor environments in various weather conditions.

Preferred:

  • Certification in heavy equipment or diesel mechanics.

  • Welding and fabrication experience.

  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and vehicle inspections.
