Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) – Job Description

Overview:
The Telemetry RN provides specialized nursing care to patients requiring continuous cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring. This role is vital in detecting early signs of cardiac or respiratory compromise, managing complex medical conditions, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe, high-quality care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Monitor patients on cardiac telemetry, interpreting and responding to arrhythmias and abnormal rhythms.
• Provide direct nursing care to patients with acute and chronic cardiac, respiratory, and medical conditions.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and oxygen therapy as ordered.
• Initiate and maintain IV lines, central lines, and other vascular access devices.
• Perform frequent assessments of patient status, documenting changes in condition, and reporting critical findings promptly.
• Educate patients and families regarding cardiac conditions, medications, and lifestyle modifications.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to create and implement care plans.
• Respond rapidly to emergencies, including codes, rapid response, and changes in cardiac status.
• Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical record documentation.
• Adhere to hospital protocols, safety standards, and best practices in telemetry and medical-surgical nursing.

Qualifications:

• Active RN license in state of practice
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in Telemetry, Progressive Care, or Medical-Surgical nursing preferred
• Strong clinical assessment, EKG interpretation, and patient communication skills
