pstrongPOSITION: /strong/p pspan style="font-weight: 400;"ECnbsp; Language Facilitatornbsp;/span/p pnbsp;/p pstrongTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:/strong/p pspan style="font-weight: 400;"Pay Grade TA56, Regular State Benefits/span/p pnbsp;/p pstrongNATURE OF WORKnbsp;/strong/p ul lispan style="font-weight: 400;"The EC Language Facilitator provides communication support services and language enhancement enrichment to children with hearing loss.nbsp;/span/li lispan style="font-weight: 400;"He/she facilitates communication among children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their hearing peers, the classroom teacher, and other school personnel. /span/li lispan style="font-weight: 400;"Duties may include transliterating fort interpreting fort and/or tutoring students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the classroom and at school-related activities. /span/li lispan style="font-weight: 400;"Daily directions are provided by the regular classroom teacher and the teacher of students who are deaf or hard of hearing. /spanspan style="font-weight: 400;"The employee consults with the teacher when problems arise. Errors can seriously impair the progress of students' learning. Limited supervision is provided.nbsp;/span/li /ul pnbsp;/p pstrongILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORKnbsp;/strong/p ul li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Facilitates communication between the student and his/her peers and/or adults in the school environment.nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Studies the content of the lessons prior to the class to ensure accuratenbsp;/spanrepresentation of the lessons.nbsp;/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Monitors comprehensionnbsp;nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Implement IEP goals under teacher direction.nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Oversee daily maintenance of and use of assistive devices.nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Tutors students who are deaf or hard of hearing under the direction of the teacher( s).nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Provides feedback to teachers upon request.nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Serves as a liaison to promote positive and cooperative relationships within the school environment.nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Provides some transliterating and interpreting for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Provides general classroom support when not facilitating communication. I.e., he/she may provide assistance to students with special needs as directed by the special education and/or classroom teachers and may participate in meetings as a member of the educational team. This general assistance must not interfere with the primary responsibility to the children who are deaf or hard of hearing.nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Studies the content of lessons before they are presented by the teacher.nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Tutors students according to directions given by the teacher.nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Provides feedback to the teachers related to the behavior of and comprehension by the students.nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Facilitates communication between the student and his/her peers and/or adults in the school environment.nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Serves as a liaison to promote positive and cooperative relationships between hearing-impaired students, school personnel, and other students.nbsp;/span/li /ul pnbsp;/p pstrongKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESnbsp;/strong/p ul li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"High School Diploma or equivalent.nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Associate Degree or two years of college (48 semester hours)nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Completion of at least one course in sign language and/or cued speech or equivalentnbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Demonstration of basic signing skills and/or cued speech skillsnbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing preferrednbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"nbsp;Working knowledge of the nature of deafness and its effect on language development.nbsp;/span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"nbsp;Ability to work as a team member with other staff members./span/li li style="font-weight: 400;"span style="font-weight: 400;"nbsp;Ability to establish positive relationships with students.nbsp;/span/li /ul pnbsp;/p pstrongADDITIONAL INFORMATIONnbsp;/strong/p pspan style="font-weight: 400;"Level of proficiency of facilitation will be determined through an informal assessment of sign language knowledge, cued speech knowledge, and/or fluency of facilitation. This informal assessment will be conducted by the lead teacher of the hearing impaired/deaf or another teacher who is competent in sign language, cued speech, and/or language facilitation.nbsp;/span/p pnbsp;/p pspan style="font-weight: 400;"Level of ability will be matched with the appropriate student(s) based on student(s)'s language needs.nbsp;/span/p pspan style="font-weight: 400;"Supervision and feedback are provided.nbsp;/span/p pspan style="font-weight: 400;"Must be willing to obtain bus driver's license/span/p pbr /br /br /br //p pspan style="font-weight: 400;"nbsp; nbsp; /span/p pnbsp;/p
