Position Purpose:

 The Safety Manager holistically owns the process of guaranteeing the highest quality of driver is servicing our customer.  This position is to help build and foster a culture of safety that leads to profitability.  The person who accepts this role will accomplish this by being in charge of administering disciplinary action for drivers who need correction, overseeing the management of regulatory compliance (DOT, FMCSA, CSA, IFTA), managing the drivers Hours of Service with our ELD tools, managing claims against the company to the best long term outcome of the company, & coordinating with insurance vendors for our company.

Job Requirements:

 ·        Years of Experience: Five years’ experience, DOT compliance preferred.

·        Education: GED or HS diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.

·        Certifications: NATMI Safety Manager & Class A CLD Preferred.

Essential Responsibilities:

·        Manages full life cycle recruiting for DOT commercial drivers.

·        Manage drivers in various software platforms.

  • Work in a team setting to establish and accomplish department goals.
  • Monitor and track driver production.
  • Provide coaching for drivers to ensure compliance with all Local, State, & Federal laws.
  • Manage and investigate all aspects of claims against the company.
  • Assist with managing and investigating Workers Compensation claims.
  • Assist with OSHA compliance with Human Resources.
  • Assist with Recruiting Manager in our Drug Testing program as well as FMCSA Clearinghouse in accordance with FMCSA standards.
  • Develop and implement Safety Policies to drive down Accidents and DOT Violations
  • All other duties and projects as assigned.

 

Safety Success

·        Ensure the fleet & employees activities are safe in all facets of the company with the goal of generating more profit by building, implementing & continuously improving systems that promote appropriate behavior.

·        Safety over compliance - ALWAYS.

·        Manage the vendor who manages the insurance claims at the company for all lines of insurance.  This means ensuring appropriate collections and payments are made in a timely manner to close out accidents.  Always make sure we take care of our people & the public when we are at fault.  

·        Interact with our drivers to improve their overall experience.  Improve productivity, safety, & compliance (in this order of priority) through use of our systems such as ELD's, Bendix Fusion, Motive, HireRite, TenStreet, McLeod & other systems that you can implement and improve upon such that these systems promote safety and therefore promote profitability.

·        Help, when necessary, with recruiting.  Provide guidance to the recruiter, ensure all drivers are quality, ensure test rides are performed.

·        Work as a liaison between the shop and dispatch to ensure appropriate repairs are made in a timely fashion to continue to promote safety.  

·        Maintain driver’s licenses, medical card, plate license and company licensing compliance.

·        Promote excellent communication with drivers.  Create and distribute lists of top performing drivers & bottom performing drivers for both safety & compliance.  Through conversations, celebrate the top performing drivers & council the bottom performing drivers.  

·        Create one safety video that's shared weekly to the Meiborg company talking about everything safety & why it matters.  

·        Encourage the 18-year-old driver program through FMCSA.

Qualifications/Skills:

 ·        Proven working experience as a manager

  • Detail oriented, enjoys a fast paced, customer service minded environment

·        Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills

·        Thinks three steps ahead & executes so that small issues never develop to problems

  • Understands & demonstrates that technology is there to help improve productivity
  • Basic proficiency with Office 365, Google Suite, McLeod, & tracking software
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications and organizational skills

·        Identifies problems & works on the issue to deliver lasting solutions

·        Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects

Physical Requirements:

 

·        Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

·        Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times & walk the floor to help staff.

·        Must be able to work remotely & after hours as needed.

·        Must be able to type 40 words per minute.

·        Must have good eyesight, correctable to 20/20.
