Intrastate Class A CDL Truck Driver

Mortellaro's Nursery is seeking an experienced Class A CDL Truck Driver for non-dedicated intrastate driving to serve our wholesale customers in a safe and timely manner.

Responsibilities:

1. Transport containerized plants and material by land from Schertz, Texas to Mortellaro's customers throughout Texas and to and from our growing location in Poteet, Texas using company tractors and 28', 48' and 53' flatbeds and vans.
2. Tailgate load, i.e. drag containerized plants to the end of the tailgate by hand; heaviest load to drag to the rear of the trailer by hand is about 150lbs.
3. Work Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Morning departure times vary depending on the travel distance to our customer's delivery site.
4. Submit to criminal background check.
5. Perform manual labor while working outdoors, exposed to all Texas weather conditions.
6. Lift up to 50 pounds. Assistance will be provided for heavier or bulky items.
7. Sit and stand for long periods of time and endure extensive walking.
8. Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance.
9. Meet delivery schedules.
10. Document and log work/rest periods and miles spent driving.
11. Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures.
12. Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions.
13. Collect and verify delivery instructions.
14. Report defects, accidents or violations.
15. General housekeeping.
16. Assist with nursery tasks when no deliveries are scheduled; all tasks require an ability to bend, stoop & squat.
    • Production and maintenance of plant material will involve manually moving plants, trimming, digging, pulling weeds and other plant growth tasks.
    • Nursery maintenance involves plumbing, mechanical, and/or carpentry tasks.
    • Order preparation involves selecting, loading and unloading plants.
17. Other driver duties performed on a rotational basis with supervision.

Skills:

1. Valid Class A CDL - no endorsements necessary.
2. 1 year proven work experience as a truck driver.
3. Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly.
4. Ability to perform manual labor while working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.
5. Knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
6. No recent moving or driving violations.
7. Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.).
8. Must be well organized, able to multi-task, dependable in attendance and performance, and work well under pressure.
