Job Summary:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Clinical Director is responsible for managing the clinical program and

provides clinical supervision of the Clinicians, Interns, and AOD Counselors at APEX Recovery LLC.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage, direct and coordinate the clinical component of APEX Recovery Program.
  • Directly supervise all Program Therapists, Alcohol and Drug Counselors and external independent contractors making sure that they adhere to the organization's treatment program and all its policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and audit Program Therapist, Alcohol and Drug Counselor and external independent contractors in regards of their on time and appropriate documentation in our electronic medical records.
  • Review ZenCharts related documentation and provide clinical input, guidance and direction to all clinical staff.
  • Provide training and consultation to clinical staff, families, and providers including ongoing organization and conducting of different client satisfaction surveys.
  • Work along with the Operations Manager and other leadership staff in order to implement sound decision making.
  • Supervise all practicum students and interns who are required to accumulate clinical hours.
  • Participate in recurring team meetings as necessary
  • Develop positive support and interaction plans as necessary for all our clients at the recovery houses as well as all clinical staff.
  • Key decision maker with new client admissions for APEX Recovery.
  • Enter, monitor, and assure data entry for all clinical staff members in the Zencharts electronic medical record. Use data to inform programmatic decision-making.
  • As a member of senior management this position ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, programs and services consistent with the facility's goals and objectives, and actively participates in a leadership role by consulting with facility management in designing and providing total patient care and services.
  • Develops and implements clinical programs, directs patient care, designs and implements treatment programming to ensure compliance with managed care criteria and provides direct therapeutic care under philosophy of the company, under limited supervision.
  • Supports program goals that align with the department and facility strategies.
  • Follows and improves clinical objectives, standards, policies and procedures and participates in agency quality improvement activities.
  • Ensures program and staff compliance with legal requirements, regulatory standards and community standards of care and is responsible for compliance with state requests.
  • Ensures coordination of services for families and multi-disciplinary team members for patients in treatment.
  • Provides clinical supervision to the clinical staff and interns.
  • Builds strong collaborative relationships with customers and referral sources, and acts as a representative of APEX Recovery in the community.
  • Manages time effectively in order to meet obligations for meetings, reports, and information, and public communication.
  • Liaises closely with the Chief Executive Director in provision of patient care and immediately refers issues of medical policy and/or procedures to them.
  • Monitors clinical care for all patients and assists when required to support clinical and non-clinical staff in providing crisis-intervention.
  • Reviews patient care, treatment plans and ensures accuracy of patient diagnosis.
  • Ensures treatment guidelines are followed and makes oversees phase requests.
  • Mediates and resolves complaints from patients, family members/significant others and staff in line with APEX policy guidance and provides input on development of action plans for resolution program deficiencies if indicated required by this process.
  • Oversees treatment of non-compliant patients, administering behavioral contracts and makes decisions on administrative discharges if necessary.
  • Coordinates weekend on-call rotation schedule. Acts as on-call clinician during weekdays and provides back-up support for weekend on-call clinicians when necessary.
  • Oversees reports on patient behavior, progress in treatment and ensures level of care is appropriate based on medical necessity.
  • Oversees and ensures insurance compliance and utilization review process by directly communicating with the UR department, reviewing and editing assessment reviews, tracking UR and timeliness and conducting peer reviews as required.
  • Consults with the Director of Admissions on intakes or patients requesting readmission to treatment ensuring that they are admitted to a program that best meets their needs.
  • Conducts individual, group and family counseling sessions when necessary.
  • Assigns treatment responsibilities to multidisciplinary staff ensuring clinicians are appropriately assigned based on patient needs and balance of clinical workloads.
  • Develops, modifies, prepares and completes probationary and annual performance appraisals; fully manages and directs provider performance
  • Makes recommendations to the CEO for provider discipline, compliance issues, suspension and termination
  • Attends and/or facilitates interdisciplinary staff meetings, case conferences, program team meetings, in-service and other meetings when appropriate.
  • Records interventions and interactions with patients. Assists the family in working with the clinical staff toward treatment goals.
  • Ensure that all program staff uphold the organization's code of conduct/code of ethics and comply with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
  • Collaborates with mental health referents on problematic cases requiring Medical staff input to provide clinical consultation/evaluation for treatment planning and risk/dangerousness assessments.
  • Maintains compliance with HIPAA regulations, ADA and Joint Commission policies and procedures.
  • Maintains Board requirements for AAFP and ABAM Boards.
  • On-call after hours for any programming and clinical emergencies.
  • All other duties as assigned (psychological assessment, administration, scoring, interpretation).

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The candidate must have completed a doctoral program in counseling or psychology from a regionally accredited graduate school, current unrestricted state license and/or certification or similar clinical qualification including PhD, PsyD, LCSW, LPC or LMFT.
  • Maintain valid CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Have reliable transportation, maintain valid auto insurance and a driving record of 3 or fewer points.

Professional Clinical Experience:

  • The candidate must have five years of clinical experience in the field of mental health and chemical dependency, three of which would have been at management level in a behavioral health/dual diagnosis treatment facility.

Skills and Competency:

  • The candidate will show strong clinical skills and competency in working with patients, from undertaking assessments (including risk), planning and delivery of care to review of effective methods of interventions, in order to shape continuing service provision that will meet the needs of individuals.
  • They will have the ability to listen actively when spoken to and effectively communicate their thoughts to others.
  • They will be sensitive to religious, ethnic and cultural differences in others and show respect and empathy.
  • They will be able to work alone but also in a team, with fellow staff, in the business setting and will actively seek out advice and/or guidance in order to solve problems. The candidate will have good time management skills, will actively seek to accomplish tasks and be able to use a variety of methods and ideas to solve problems whilst also being open to suggestions from others in order to find solutions.
  • They will possess excellent managerial and leadership skills/competence to enable them to support and motivate their teams and have excellent communication skills, sensitivity and approachability to enable them to connect with their teams, develop and train them in order to ensure a high standard of patient care.
  • Being able to manage under pressure and conflicting demands, they should be professional at all times in order to make decisions and manage crisis situations whilst supporting the staff and patients.
