This individual will be responsible for working alongside and organizing Bird Handling Specialists to ensure that all daily tasks are completed safely and efficiently. Work involves performing a variety of skilled and unskilled and semi-skilled poultry-related tasks in accordance with specific instructions of a well-established routine.
Key Responsibilities:
- Bird Welfare: Ensuring the well-being of the birds by monitoring their health, ensuring access to food, water, ventilation, and maintaining comfortable temperatures.
- Compliance & Safety: Adhering to State and Federal regulations (FDA, USDA, SQF, Cal/OSHA) and ensuring the operation complies with safety, environmental, and food safety standards.
- Training & Leadership: Working with Managers and Supervisors to train staff, monitor performance, and ensure efficient task completion. The layer Lead is expected to be an organizer and team leader.
- Daily Operations: Overseeing tasks like feeding, watering, and maintaining the poultry houses, as well as monitoring for disease or distress in the birds.
- Maintenance: Maintaining equipment, performing minor repairs, and ensuring cleanliness of the poultry houses and surrounding areas.
- Record Keeping: Documenting tasks such as water meter readings, feed inventory, and monitoring temperature to ensure compliance.
- Manure Management: Overseeing manure removal, maintenance of manure storage, and ensuring the equipment is functioning properly.
Physical Requirements:
- The role involves physical labor, including standing for long periods, lifting to 50-75 pounds, frequent climbing, bending, and shoveling.
- Ability to perform tasks that require good vision and hearing (to identify animal issues and equipment malfunctions).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in a leadership role (3 years preferred).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to keep detailed and accurate records.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
- Ability to operate machinery like forklifts and hand tools.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-2 years of related experience in poultry or farm management preferred, not required.

- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential.
