JOB DESCRIPTION
LINEMAN 3rd CLASS
PAY GRADE 7
I. OBJECTIVE:
To learn the required work of a Lineman 3rd Class, in connection with transmission, and distribution of electric power, protective devices, sub-station, and other related equipment.
I. MANAGEMENT EXPECTATIONS:

II. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Promoting safety and developing a positive employee attitude in work methods and use of equipment and tools in proper working order. Perform quality work and give courteous service that will promote goodwill between the Cooperative, the member-consumers, and all inter-office departments. Develop departmental relationships to ensure a productive work environment.

A. Reports to: Line Foreman, or other assigned supervisor

IV. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
V. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
To learn the following duties under direct supervision utilizing training materials and
on training.
A. Ability to learn and perform pole top rescue.
B. Learns to install, move, or remove transformers, circuit breakers,
capacitors, regulators, service drops, security lights, and other line
equipment under direct supervision when required.
C. Willing to assist other Lineman in Hot Work procedures.
D. Willing to go into stand-by rotation, if needed.
E. Learns to install or remove instrument transformers, and recording meters
of all types. Also, to make load and voltage tests under direct supervision,
when required.
F. Learns all types of single and polyphase transformer installation, as well
as rephrasing and phase rotation on polyphase circuits, under direct
supervision, when assigned.
G. Learns distribution and transmission switching, sectionalizing, and fusing,
under direct supervision.
H. Operates and sees that trucks, tools, and other assigned equipment are
properly used and kept in good working order. Also, to make sure that all
necessary repairs are reported to the supervisor.
I. Learns how to operate Track Hoe and Skid Steer.
J. Learns to prepare, and submit necessary forms; outage reports, time
reports, mileage, and gas records, material charge-out and charge-in
sheets.
K. Learns to read and interpret; staking sheets, REA specifications, and line
construction assemblies.
L. Learns to operate radio equipment and abides by FCC rules and
regulations.
M. Studies and becomes familiar with corporate policies and procedures, and
attends all safety meetings held by Corporation.
N. Is capable of giving minor first aid, artificial respiration, and learns pole
top rescue procedures.
O. Learns to splice, sag, tie-in, and connect conductors.
P. Learns to repair, replace and re-sag conductors.
Q. Learns to patrol lines and identify trouble for corrective and preventative
maintenance.
R. Learn to splice, terminate and elbow primary and secondary underground
services.
S. Learn to climb poles using all BRMEMC safety procedures.
T. All other duties as required or directed.
VI. MARGINAL DUTIES:
All duties listed above are required for this position and none are considered
marginal.
VII. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
A. A high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
B. One to three months related experience and/or training.
C. Must be willing to attend training schools and seminars, and TVPPA correspondence course as needed to increase knowledge of job.
VIII. KNOWLEDGE:
Should have a working knowledge of basic electricity, safety practices, codes, and REA specifications, in system construction, maintenance and repair.
IX. ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
A. Must be able to provide sound Cooperative employee relations, maintaining amicable relationships with all Cooperative personnel at all times.
B. Must have the ability to learn to climb and do so on a regular basis.
X. ATTITUDE:
A. Willingness to cooperate, perform, and contribute to the department’s goal of providing exceptional service to the members and to the organization as a whole.

XII. Must possess and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) as well as a good driving/safety record.
