The Plater’s responsibilities include, but may not be limited to,

  • Understand the safety features of the machines and tooling to ensure they are operating without compromise to safety systems.
  • Follows safety protocol and procedures, including wearing proper PPE attire.
  • Respect and protect Swanton Welding’s and third party's property (tools, vehicles, facilities, equipment) and business activities
  •  Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
  •  Ability to read blueprints and understand a set of work instructions
  •  Responsible for layout using tape measure, specified dimensions according to blueprint and work instructions.
  •  Operates drills, air tools, power tools and cranes to install truck beds and axles. Ability to cut the frame to a length and drill
  • Responsible for the installation of pintle plates, crane fish plates and axles.
  • Perform the space out and installation of fuel tanks and battery boxes.
  •  Ability to move, reroute or add airlines
  •  Visually inspect quality and use other quality inspection equipment to confirm compliance to part specifications.
  •  Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and work area
  •  Performs other duties as assigned by the Shop Supervisor
  • Conduct self at all times in a way that promotes a positive image of the Swanton Welding and follows the Code of Conduct.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong mechanical abilities
  • Experience working with wrenches and impact tools (i.e. auto mechanic skills)
  • Knowledge on how to operate drills, air tools, power tools and cranes.
  • Experience working with cars, trucks or semis
  •   Welding experience required
  • Ability to read a tape measure and understand mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions).
  •  Ability to follow written work instructions
  • A work history of compliance to safety, quality, and productivity standards
  • A work history that supports a good to excellent attendance record
  • Fast learner and able to adapt in a fast-paced environment
  •  Detail oriented approach to daily work activities
  •  Able to work well in a team-oriented work environment
  •  Positive attitude and willingness to learn

Preferred Skills

  •  At least 2 years’ of mechanical experience
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand Work Orders.

  •   Lifting, Carrying up to 50 pounds (Occasionally)
  • Temperatures (Occasionally)

Additional Notes

  •  May require overtime with little notice before or after normal work hours or weekends.
