Job Description
JOB GOAL: The Occupational Therapy Coordinator manages the daily operations of Occupational Therapy programming. This position assists and supervises, in collaboration with the Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA). The Occupational Therapy Coordinator also has direct responsibility for facilitating staff growth and knowledge of Occupational Therapy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide coordination and support for Occupational Therapy programming within the agency
- Responsible for the hiring, training, on-going supervision, discipline, and review of evaluations for the COTA’s
- Communicate regularly with other agency staff:
- With Clinicians, Home Supervisors, and Directors of Residential to ensure integration of Occupational Therapy.
- With Direct Care Teams and Clinicians to keep them informed of clients OT needs within treatment (i.e. incentive plans/intervention plans) and/or mental health concerns during a session (i.e. self-harm, suicidal/homicidal ideation)
- Work cooperatively with various other agency staff to stimulate creative and therapeutic activities with residents.
- Participate in and/or provide leadership to assigned agency committees/groups as it relates to the OT program area (i.e. Peer Supervision, Home Supervisors Meeting, Home Team meetings once per quarter)
- Attend various agency meetings to be aware of program planning and changes.
- Schedule weekly OT sessions for qualifying clients and communicate the schedule with treatment teams.
- Monitor code totals
- Create and lead group OT sessions when appropriate.
- Oversee the management and use of the equipment and facilities including the OT room. Scheduling cleaning of OT room, monitoring inventory, and ordering any supplies needed.
- Assist in overseeing of the department’s annual budget and completing monthly expense reports.
- Aide in the supervision of interns in the Occupational Therapy department.
- Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position. The employee must maintain a consistent work schedule and be available during the assigned hours to perform the duties of this role.
Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide and adapt one’s therapeutic use of self and presence as needed per client presentation (i.e. challenger, creator, coach) to facilitate engagement in therapy routines and activities.
- Report and demonstrate intentional engagement in balanced healthy lifestyle to support personal emotional regulation during work with clients
- Collaborate with clinicians and direct care staff to review client’s progress and/or identify further needs
- Communicate with OT team to discuss assessment and evaluation findings and therapeutic goals
- Plan therapeutic activities that are aimed toward meeting each client’s individual therapeutic goals, using the OTR’s evaluation report as a guide. Grading, planning, and implementing activities appropriate for the client at any given time based on demographics, behaviors, and other existing circumstances.
- Provide appropriate sensory tools, visual aids, and any other necessary resources to assist the client in achieving maximal functional independence.
- Provide and monitor an at home/unit based therapeutic program with suitable resources and visual/written aids when appropriate.
- Use opportunities to include the clients directs care staff, clinicians, and/or family in the therapeutic activities and/or unit-based/home programs.
- Provide discharge recommendations, resources, and referrals as deemed necessary/appropriate upon client’s discharge from Wedgwood Christian Services or from occupational therapy services.
- Responsible for timely Quality Assurance compliance as related to employee’s roles and functions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree in Occupational Therapy or an equivalent degree from an accredited university.
- A minimum of two years of experience in the field of Occupational Therapy under professional supervision.
- A valid national certification and state license.
- Prior group facilitating experience preferred.
- Subscription to the Statement of Faith of Wedgwood Christian Services and agreement with the goals, purpose, and objectives of the agency.
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 40 hours Weekly, 1st and early 2nd shift hours available
COMPENSATION: $28 - $31.49 per hour
