Job Description The Flatbed/Utility Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of IFG finished lumber, equipment, and residual products. This role primarily involves operating a flatbed truck but also requires driving chip trucks as needed to transport materials from mill locations to customer sites. The driver must operate independently while adhering to all company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Transport lumber, equipment, and residual products between mill sites, reload facilities, and customer locations using company-provided trucks.
- Operate flatbed and chip trucks safely and efficiently in compliance with DOT, state, and company regulations.
- Perform and document DOT-required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections daily.
- Maintain accurate records of loads, deliveries, and shipment readiness.
- Utilize electronic tracking systems as required.
- Keep work area, vehicle, and equipment clean; perform general cleanup tasks during downtime.
- Be aware of and proactively manage traffic, including vehicle and foot traffic in work areas.
- Attend and actively participate in all required safety meetings and training.
- Follow all prescribed safety procedures and use all required protective equipment and seat belts.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or injuries to the Supervisor or Safety Personnel immediately.
- Other duties as needed.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 2 years of CDL over-the-road (OTR) driving experience with 100,000 GVW capable equipment.
- Valid Class A CDL with an acceptable driving record.
- Experience in adverse driving conditions including gravel, snow- and mud-covered roads.
- Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations
- Ability to pass a DOT drug and alcohol screening, post-offer pre-employment physical, and background check.
- Experience with flatbed load securement.
Ability to sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distance, and climb stairs. Requires the ability to lift and secure loads as necessary.
